Position Summary
Provides professional nursing care under supervision for assigned patients in assigned areas in the emergency department, medical/surgical, and swing bed units.
Position Accountabilities
Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards.
Administers and controls narcotics and medications.
Monitors medical condition of patients and reports changes to appropriate personnel.
Prepares, hangs, monitors and discontinues IV fluids.
Provides direct patient care from infancy through geriatrics, evaluates outcome, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care. Provides appropriate, direct patient care in assigned areas.
Performs basic nursing procedures including thermal applications, non-sterile soaks, and application of simple dressings, perennial care, and urine tests.
Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards.
Charts observations according to hospital policy and procedure.
Arranges for patient’s ordered diagnostic and therapeutic services.
Assists physicians with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care.
Admits patients and arranges emergency operations and other services.
Ensures accurate maintenance of patient’s medical records and that patient records are treated as confidential information.
Cooperates with other personnel to achieve department objectives and maintain good employee relations, interdepartmental objectives, and infection control policies.
Demonstrates sensitivity to patient’s comfort and privacy and expresses interest in their progress.
Receives and reviews preceding shift reports and notes patients’ condition.
Monitors emotional stability of patients and reports changes to physician or charge nurse.
Follows policies and procedures regarding attendance and work hours.
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
Attends meetings as required.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
The following job accountabilities may be reassigned:
Provides health care instruction to patient and family members.
Assists with patient discharge planning.
Performs clerical duties related to procedures such as admission, discharge, transfer, and death.
Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment.
Minimum Education - Post High School Vocational/Specialized Training
Minimum Experience - Sufficient previous clinical experience
Required Course(s)/Training - Completion of accredited program for Licensed Practical Nursing Basic Arrhythmia Class
Required Certification/Registration - Current Oklahoma LPN license; BLS certification; ACLS within six (6) months; PALS within one (1) year;
Preferred Experience - 1 – 3 years clinical experience, Previous critical care nursing, One year of medical/surgical nursing
