What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nurse Extern MICU - PRN position at NORTHEASTERN HEALTH SYSTEM?
The Nurse Extern in clinical practice fulfills professional responsibilities regardless of the setting in which care is provided. The nurse extern functions under the supervision of the RN Preceptor to assist in coordination of nursing care for the patients by participating in gathering information for the physical assessment of patients of all ages. The nurse extern will be able to perform vital signs; urinary catheterization, nasotracheal suction, venipuncture, sterile and non-sterile dressing changes and blood glucose monitoring, and patient care plans for those patients. The extern will be able to provide basic patient care and document care provided. The nurse extern works cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other patient care team personnel in maintaining standards for nursing practice in the clinical setting. The nurse extern participates in patient/family teaching and may care for patients of all ages. The nurse externship is a PRN position while the extern is attending nursing school. The nurse extern must have completed a minimum of two semesters of full time nursing education in a accredited nursing program.
Minimum Education Be classified as a senior nursing student in an Accredited Registered Nursing Program and have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
