Position Summary
Provides circulating and/or recovery room nurse services in the operating room during surgical procedures. Assists surgical team as needed in any other capacity, according to established procedures.
Position Accountabilities
Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement programs, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Provides direct patient care form infancy through geriatrics, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
Prepares patients for scheduled procedures to assist in patient assessment.
Monitors medical condition of patients and reports changes to appropriate personnel.
Writes initial nursing histories, assesses patients’ conditions and develops individual care plans for patients assigned to the unit.
Demonstrates sensitivity to patient’s comfort, privacy and expresses interest in their progress.
Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards.
Prepares written documentation as required by the profession and the department.
Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates patient care activities utilizing principles of growth and development, and adjusts these processes as indicated, to ensure optimal care of the surgical patient.
Assists physicians with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care.
Ensures accurate maintenance of patients’ medical records and that patient records are treated as confidential information.
Cooperates with other personnel to achieve department objective and maintain good employee relations, interdepartmental objectives, and infection control policies.
Assists the surgical team during operative procedures.
Inspects area daily for compliance with policies, procedures, regulations, and standards and takes corrective action when violations occur.
Orients, instructs, and trains assigned personnel.
Performs a variety of nursing administrative duties.
Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment.
Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient medical records. Maintains all required reports, records, statistics, etc.
Assists attending physicians and aids patients and families as needed in times of stress or crisis.
Confers with medical staff concerning procedures and availability of nursing personnel. Meets with other personnel to coordinate activities for admissions of post-op patients.
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
Attends meetings as required and participates on committees as directed.
Stimulates a positive spirit through personal example and motivation.
Motivates others to improve by taking pride in own actions & goals of Tahlequah City Hospital.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Education - Associate Degree/Diploma
Minimum Experience - Recent operating room clinical experience
Required Certification/Registration - Current Okla. RN license and BLS certification. ACLS certification within 6 months
Preferred Education - Bachelor Degree in Nursing
Preferred Experience - Two years surgical experience including circulating and recovery room
Preferred Certification/Registration - PALS within one year of employment date. Certified Operating Room Nurse (CNOR)REg
