What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ultrasound Tech - PRN position at NORTHEASTERN HEALTH SYSTEM?
Position Summary
Performs diagnostic Ultrasound examinations for subsequent evaluation and treatment by attending physician.
Position Accountabilities
Maintains established department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, and safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Prepares written documentation as required by the profession and the department, such as evaluation results, individualized treatment plans, progress reports, and other such reports.
Performs all ultrasound techniques and examinations, abdominal scans, retroperitoneal scans, obstetric and gynecology scans, and minor surgical procedures.
Provides radiologic services to infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, using knowledge/skills unique to the requirements of each age group to ensure optimal patient care.
Assists physician in such procedures as needle biopsies, amniocentesis, renal biopsies, etc. Scans patients, marks patient’s body, determines angle for puncture, assists as necessary, maintains sterile technique.
Selects proper technical factors on an individual patient basis.
Reviews and evaluates completed tests for quality, completeness, and type of test ordered; ensures quality images.
Prepares the patient, explains the procedure, and ensures patient’s cooperation during the examination.
Develops film including evaluating film for technical quality.
Maintains records of examination data and other pertinent information on patients.
Schedules cases to coordinate with other patient examinations.
Positions and transfers patients comfortably.
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings, and workshops.
Attends meetings as required.
Performs the duties of CAT Scan Technologist as needed.
Checks equipment, supplies and accessories on a regular basis.
Participates in quality assurance program. Establishes and maintains safety, environmental and infection control policies and procedures for the department.
Maintains department facilities, equipment, and materials in a condition to promote efficiency, health, comfort, and safety of patients and staff.
Aids in the training of Radiography Students.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Education - High School or equivalent
Minimum Experience - Previous experience in ultrasound technology
Required Course(s)/Training - Course for radiology technicians, and course in ultrasound technology
Required Certification/Registration - BCLS (CPR), Eligible for Diagnostic Ultrasound registry.
Preferred Education - Post High School Vocational/Specialized Training
Preferred Experience - Three to five years ultrasound experience in a hospital
Preferred Certification/Registration - Certification in diagnostic ultrasound and ARRT registered.
