INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNER

Position Summary

This strategic role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of learning at a forward-thinking electric cooperative. As our Instructional Designer, you'll serve as the organization's trusted learning advisor, leading projects that range from board-level governance training to field operations and emerging energy technologies.

You'll Have Significant Creative Autonomy To

  • Design and develop innovative learning solutions across all levels of the organization
  • Lead the full development cycle from needs analysis through evaluation
  • Partner with subject matter experts and stakeholders to create impactful learning experiences
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects using Agile methodologies
  • Oversee our Learning Management System infrastructure

The ideal candidate brings a sophisticated approach to instructional design, combining strong project management capabilities with expertise in adult learning principles and e-learning development best practices. You'll work independently while collaborating with internal and external teams to create learning experiences that drive real-world performance outcomes.

Required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s Degree in Instructional Design or Educational Technology
  • Minimum 3 years of corporate instructional design experience
  • Track record of managing complex learning projects from conception to delivery
  • Experience in developing technical training and documentation
  • Proven success working with stakeholders and SMEs in a distributed team environment

Knowledge And Skills

Professional Expertise:

  • Mastery of instructional design principles, adult learning theory, and performance improvement methodologies
  • Proven ability to analyze complex, industry-specific technical content and transform it into effective learning experiences
  • Experience conducting detailed needs assessments and evaluating learning effectiveness
  • Excellent project management skills, including resource planning and stakeholder communication

Technical Proficiency

  • Advanced skills in e-learning development and multimedia production
  • Demonstrated ability to manage learning management system
  • Strong technical writing and storyboarding capabilities

  • Ability to work independently while maintaining effective collaboration

  • Experience leading cross-functional projects with a positive, solutions-oriented approach across diverse subject areas

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other reasonably related duties may be assigned)

Strategic Planning And Project Management

  • Lead the full cycle of learning solutions from needs analysis through evaluation
  • Plan and execute concurrent e-learning development projects to support organizational initiatives
  • Partner with stakeholders to identify and prioritize learning needs
  • Manage project resources, timelines, and deliverables effectively

Learning Design And Development

  • Design and develop engaging e-learning experiences using varied instructional methods
  • Support learners’ experience through meaningful interactivity, practice, reinforcement, and assessment.
  • Apply Universal Design for Learning principles to ensure accessibility

Content Development And Media Production

  • Write clear, concise instructional content for diverse audiences
  • Script and coordinate video production as needed
  • Create effective storyboards and design documents

Learning Systems Management

  • Manage and maintain Northeastern Academy, the company’s LMS
  • Ensure smooth user experience and course delivery
  • Monitor and analyze learning metrics to drive continuous improvement
  • Support learners and stakeholders in system use

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is a fully remote position. You'll collaborate with our Columbia City, Indiana headquarters team during standard Eastern Time Zone business hours (Monday through Friday). While working independently, you'll be fully integrated into our team through regular virtual collaboration.

Work Setting

  • Dedicated home office setup required
  • Regular virtual meetings and collaborative sessions with on-site teams
  • Occasional travel to headquarters may be required for key initiatives or team events

Technology Environment

  • Collaboration through Microsoft Teams
  • Full access to necessary software and development resources
  • Technical support provided for remote setup
  • Secure access to company systems and resources
