Job Summary
This position provides liaison services for assigned programs, departments, and colleges; provides
information literacy and research instruction; and provides reference and research assistance.
MAJOR DUTIES
Serves as resource coordinator and liaison to assigned academic programs, departments, and
colleges.
Provides specialized reference assistance to researchers in assigned disciplines.
Provides on-call reference assistance on a rotating schedule.
Designs library guides and finding aids in assigned disciplines.
Provides library instruction for general education courses and courses in assigned academic
disciplines.
Selects monographs and databases for purchase in support of assigned academic programs,
departments, and colleges.
Evaluates library collection needs in liaison areas, articulates criteria for removal for de accessioning,
and pulls items for weeding.
Participates on faculty committees as assigned.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge Required By The Position
Initiative in communication, diplomacy, understanding of academic culture, understanding
vocabulary of particular academic disciplines.
Knowledge of resources in specialized disciplines.
Knowledge of resources in specialized disciplines, strong interviewing skills, online search skills.
Broad knowledge of the academic universe.
Basic knowledge of the work of other library departments and of higher education more generally.
Knowledge of resources in academic disciplines and skills in using specialized delivery interfaces
such as Blackboard and LibGuides.
Strong knowledge of information resources in assigned areas and ability to communicate and
negotiate with teaching faculty.
Knowledge of information retrieval strategies and information resources.
General knowledge of higher education.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions, requiring the employee to use much
judgment. No specific “review” – work is performed independently. However, when the supervisor
does review the work it is to assure the fulfillment of library mission, goals, and objectives.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include the American Library Association Code of Ethics, protocols established by Library
Administration. The guidelines are general and require interpretation. At time guidelines may cause
conflict and that that time the employee may have to make a high-level trade-off decision.

CONTACTS
Contacts are typically students, faculty, administrators, library faculty and staff, external library
users.
Contacts are typically to provide assistance in finding, selecting, and using information resources,
instruction in information literacy, and decisions concerning the selection of library materials.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or while intermittently sitting, standing, or
stooping. The employee frequently lifts light objects (less than 24 pounds).
The work is typically performed in an office, library or computer room.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a minimum of a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS), Master of Science
Library Science (MSLS), MA in Library Science (MA), or Master of Library Science (MLS). Must
be accredited by the American Library Association.
Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the use of specialized bibliographic databases and
references sources. Extensive use of Excel and formulas.
Preferred Qualifications
Two years of professional experience in reference librarianship, instructional librarianship, or library
collection development.
Annual salary $43,956.00 with excellent benefits, including generous leave time
