What are the responsibilities and job description for the Occupational Therapist PRN position at Northeastern Tribal Health System?
Position Summary: Provides assessment, treatment, and consultation through the use of purposeful activity such as instruction in daily living skills and cognitive retraining, facilitating self-maintenance, work and leisure skills. Therefore, maximizing independence, preventing disability, and maintaining health.
Position responsibilities:
- Plans and implements Occupational Therapy programs and activities.
- Interprets recommendations, interviews and assesses capacities and limitation.
- Reviews progress reports and consults with appropriate personnel, and prepares and presents pertinent professional records and reports.
- Collaborates with referring providers in the placement of patient in Occupational Therapy work and initiates contact with appropriate individuals, allied professional and administrative personnel.
- Explains, demonstrates and interprets the role and function of Occupational Therapy.
- Works with multi-disciplinary team and physicians to plan, implement and evaluate treatment programs for outpatient patients.
- Performs Occupational Therapy treatments and instructs patients and/or family members in proper care techniques.
- Evaluates, charts and reports patient’s progress throughout the planned therapy program.
- Formulates a complete evaluation of the impact of the disease, the participation of patients in valued life roles, activities of daily living (BADL and IADL), work and leisure.
- Plans treatment programs to be delivered by an Occupational Therapy Assistant as indicated, and oversees the delivery of care.
- Adheres to all requirements and regulations dictated by state licensures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Essential skills and experience:
- Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent education and experience combination.
- Current State licensure as an Occupational Therapist
- Two to five years of experience preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) must be current or obtained during orientation.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Problem analysis and problem resolution at both a strategic and functional level.
Valued but not required skills and experience:
- Experience supervising a team.

Work Environment: Work is performed in an ambulatory health care setting. There is common exposure to contagious and infectious diseases. The work may include a certain amount of exposure to hostile and emotionally disturbed patients, families and visitors.
