About the Opportunity

JOB SUMMARY

The Director's primary responsibility is the sound fiscal / budget management of the organization including all planning, forecasting, management of human resource actions, and data visualization / reporting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced to expert-level knowledge of Microsoft Excel or similar data management and visualization is required;
  • Experience in Banner, Cognos, and Workday financial systems preferred.
  • Willingness and interest to explore and learn new technologies for efficient and effective data management.
  • Strong proven analytical and project management skills and the ability to sort out complex information are essential.
  • Ability to demonstrate a strong commitment to exceeding client / customer expectations.
  • Excellent strategic leadership and team building skills.
  • Knowledge and skills required for this position are typically acquired through the completion of a Master's degree, preferably in Business Accounting, Finance, or similar field.
  • Minimum of seven to nine years of financial / accounting experience preferably in higher education.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

Finance (80%) :

  • Responsible for Division-wide financial planning, forecasting, management, and monitoring as well as purchasing decisions across all fund types.
  • Address finance and budget issues with department heads.
  • Produce and maintain data visualization dashboards or equivalent methods for leadership.
  • Prepare standard and ad hoc financial reports as required.
  • Ensure proper usage of funds (including both internal funds as well as in support of externally sponsored research), monitor open salary lines, revenue sources, and movement between budget categories.
  • Maintain policies and controls for financial and human resources functions and ensure university policies are being followed.
  • Manage the annual budget process including the tracking of all incremental budget allocations and the set-up of accounts.
  • Manage quarterly budget forecasts, identify shortfalls and problem areas, and provide consultation for resolution.
  • Be the division's central point of contact to the Finance Office on all budget-related matters.
  • Work with budget office to provide reconciliation of funding allocations and ensure proper disbursement of funds.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement cost savings measures.
  • Negotiate special rates / discounts that can benefit the Division.
  • Track Division contracts and follow the gatekeeper process.
  • Perform monthly expense reconciliations and process all fiscal transactions for the Institute (P.O.'s, invoices, etc.).
  • Human Resource and Administrative Management (20%) :

  • Prepare all financial planning around HR including advising on compensation.
  • Process all HR transactions (i.e., Personnel action, extra comp forms) and routing of all personnel matters.
  • Participate and support the strategic planning process for the division.
  • Direct and manage administrative position(s) responsible for finance, HR, and administrative assistance.
