About the Opportunity We are seeking a full-time Senior Wet Lab Makerspace Manager who will educate and inspire students in the art, technology, and practice of biological and chemical making. This position, which reports to the Executive Director of the Makerspace at EXP, manages, maintains, and supports the programming and operation of the Makerspace at EXP's wet lab. Successful candidates will have a deliberate approach to safety, inclusivity, strong lab management skills, and an interest in formulating and implementing innovative improvements to the makerspace. The Makerspace at EXP: The Makerspace at EXP is a transdisciplinary teaching and learning innovation center, intended to be a crossroads of creativity, camaraderie, and safety for every student, staff, and faculty member from all Northeastern University colleges. With a focus on internal and external outreach, innovation, and collaboration, the makerspace will support the Northeastern community in producing everything from personal passion projects to new ventures and course assignments while fostering an experiential learning community that extends beyond the space itself. The Makerspace at EXP will be a highly visible and accessible resource for the Northeastern University community. Designed to be a hub for a making ecosystem across Northeastern's global campuses, the staff of the makerspace will lead the charge on collaboration within Northeastern's network—including building out new infrastructure, such as a Makerspace Ecosystem website to improve student access to making spaces on Northeastern's campus. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s in bioengineering, chemical engineering, biology, chemistry, or a related field is required. Teaching, mentoring, interpersonal, presentation, and written communication skills and ability to work with, receive and implement feedback from a broad spectrum of people. 3-5 years' experience working with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff in an academic environment. Demonstrated success with safety, teaching and mentoring, and wet lab management. Strong organizational and time management skills and ability to handle multiple workstreams. Knowledge and understanding of current Environmental Health and Safety practices within makerspaces or shops. Master’s in bioengineering, chemical engineering, biology, chemistry, or a related field is preferred. Key Responsibilities: Design, organize, and document, and deliver training on wet lab use and operation Collaborate with team to develop policies and documentation for inclusive use of the makerspace, particularly within the wet lab Create an environment of student empowerment and safety awareness Develop innovative ways for students to use and interact with a wide variety of bio-lab and/or chem-lab tools and equipment Maintain the wet lab's equipment and operations Work in an inclusive manner with all students regardless of backgrounds and interests, especially those from non-dominant groups in STEM Support and mentor students, and, when needed, act as an advocate for student needs and foster a positive and inclusive work and learning environment Pull up the fabrication skill chain by sharing enthusiasm for and skills within the art of fabrication and making Assist the Executive Director in other duties as needed Additional Information: This is a 40-hour-per-week role with a flexible schedule, including scheduled weekends and weeknights as necessary.
