Overview
The Communication Specialist / Technician, under the supervision of the Communication Center Supervisor, is responsible for the coordination of air and ground transports, office / clerical tasks, and preliminary billing tasks. Overall communications are via phone, radio, verbal, text and written word. The Communication Specialist / Technician will be able to think and function independently as well as project a positive image as a customer representative at all times.
Responsibilities
Operations
- Utilizes all modes of communication to promote, maintain, and enhance air and ground operations.
- Obtains patient information from a variety of sources.
- Composes clinical crews and notifies flight crews, gathers patient equipment needs, coordinates arrivals at the airport and / or hospital.
- Demonstrates Flight / Unit following via radio and / or land-line contact to maintain awareness of aircraft / unit location for notification of flight / unit diversions and / or overdue aircraft / units, as well as to promote safe patient care missions.
- Notifies receiving hospital and ground transport of ETAs.
- Skilled in the current systems utilized in the communication center.
- Assists with orientation of new Communication Specialists / Technicians.
- Navigation techniques / terminology, transport following, and map skills.

Education
High School Diploma or GED- Required
Certification & Licensures
Guardian Air Transport :
Current IAMTCS Certification (within 2 years of hire) - Required
Heartsaver or RQI / BLS (American Heart Association) - Preferred
Guardian Medical Transport :
BLS (American Heart Association) - Preferred
Experience
EMS / Medical background- Preferred
Dispatching experience- Preferred
