Overview
The RN Flight nurse renders highly skilled and professional emergency care during to patients while in flight. This person will be caring for patients from neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult and the geriatric age groups. The nurse will must have knowledge and skills to care for the physical and developmental needs of these populations. Clinical expertise enable the flight Registered Nurse to administer skills, critical decision making and safe practice at all times. Must be able to function independent of medical control on scene or when communication is difficult.
Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Assesses the needs and conditions of assigned patients by gathering relevant patient health information.
- Proficient in life saving interventions, including but not limited to, advanced airway management, endotracheal Intubation, ventilator management, chest decompression, etc…
- Strong fundamental knowledge of pharmacological agents and ability to safely administer all medications including vasoactive medications, sedatives, paralytics, etc…
- Functions with a high level of autonomy providing critical care to patients of every age group and specialty as needed (e.g. adult critical care, pediatric critical care, high risk obstetrics, etc…

Education
RNs hired on or after 7 / 1 / 2016 : Must graduate from a BSN program within 6 years of hire into an RN position.
Existing Staff RNs : RNs hired before 7 / 1 / 2016 are not mandated to have a BSN, but are encouraged to pursue a BSN degree.
Active, unrestricted, Arizona RN License or valid, participating compact license- Required
Current Driver’s license in the state in which they reside with no moving violations within prior 36 months- Required
Experience
Three (3) years of critical care experience- Required (A combination of Emergency, ICU or High Risk Labor and Delivery)
Previous experience in more than one specialty area- Preferred
Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
