Overview
The Unit Clerk performs job duties under the direct supervision of the Unit Charge RN or House Supervisor and reports to the Emergency Dept. Unit Director. She/he is responsible for completing reception/secretarial duties on the patient care unit and functions as the focal communication source at the nurse’s station.
The Unit Clerk is responsible for his/her own actions, and the following is a requirment
One year previous hospital experience as a Unit Clerk or a graduate of an approved Secretary program preferred
Successful completion of basic Medical Terminology program; High school graduate or equivalent preferred
Basic computer and keyboard knowledge and skills; clear and legible handwriting
Professional telephone etiquettte
Ability to work as part of a team, required (supervision)
Ability to meet specific criteria for individual nursing unit, required.
Ability to set up and monitor the staff pagers, required
