Role Summary
The Senior Research Technician will engage in drug administration, anesthesia, sample collection and data review. The Senior Research Technician will mentor and train other research technicians. They will also work closely with Supervisors on training initiatives for technical staff and assessment and implementation of new processes.
This is a non-exempt position that is eligible for overtime after 40 hours in a workweek and has no supervisory responsibility.
Role Responsibilities
- Will assist with restraint, handling, and manipulation of animal species.
- Perform animal observations and monitoring to assess animal health throughout study duration.
- Collect and record data on paper and / or in an electronic laboratory information management system (LIMS) in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
- Proficiency in data review for GLP compliance
- Sample collection including but not limited to, non-sterile scrub of collection sites, blood draws, and urine collections.
- Drug administration including, but not limited to, eye drops, tablets, subcutaneous injections, intramuscular injections, and drug calculations.
- Anesthesia monitoring includes intubation / extubation and use of animal warming systems.
- Serve as Lead Point Technician on research studies.
- Provide leadership and may serve as main contact for technical staff in the absence of supervisor.
- Work towards becoming subject matter expert (SME) in animal research functions and train others in technical tasks related to those study functions.
- Demonstrate leadership qualities and mentor Research Technicians to improve development of technical skills within the team.
- Will be involved with physical testing such as FOB’s and ECGs.
- May assist with animal husbandry, including but not limited to cleaning, feeding, watering and enrichment as needed.
- Perform other training or duties as assigned.
