Role Summary
The Veterinary Services Supervisor will be engaged in the supervision and development of direct reports (entry-level or skilled technicians and administrative support) and in directing the daily operations of the Veterinary Services group. The Veterinary Services Supervisor is responsible for administering policies, processes and procedures that affect their team’s workflow, ensuring delivery of high-quality veterinary and behavioral care to animals within NBR’s program, and supporting productive collaboration across departments. This individual is responsible for communicating expectations, business needs and opportunities for improvement to the Veterinary and Behavioral Technicians.
This is an exempt role that is not eligible for overtime after 40 hours and has supervisory responsibility.
Role Responsibilities
- Oversee performance, development, training needs and accomplishments for all direct reports in the context of business needs within Veterinary Services and across the company.
- In collaboration with Human Resources, hire staff as needed and resolve all Employee Relations issues.
- Recognize, initiate, and lead process improvement activities
- Serve as the liaison between Veterinary Services staff, other departments/groups, and management to communicate expectations and business needs
- Collaborate with the Attending Veterinarian to oversee scheduling, planning and data review within Veterinary Services
- Evaluate and modify standard operating procedures (SOP) to ensure excellent patient care in the context of approved IACUC research activities
- Ensure Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), SOP, protocol, and other regulatory compliance for all direct reports.
- Identify and track Veterinary Services-related metrics
- May serve as the Diversion Control Officer for controlled substances
- Other duties as assigned.
Role Requirements
- LVT or CLABP (Certified Laboratory Animal Behavior Professional) or equivalent certification with 5 years’ experience in veterinary, animal behavior, or laboratory animal science required, or other combination of education and experience from which equivalent expertise has been gained.
- LAT/LATG certification required, or other combination of education and experience from which equivalent expertise has been gained.
- AS/BS/MS or equivalent in animal or life science related discipline preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of management experience preferred.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office core applications. Ability to learn and use additional applications.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to handle common laboratory species.
- Knowledge of GLPs and other federal regulations relating to care of laboratory animals.
- Excellent understanding of study design and protocols.
- Excellent understanding of laboratory operations and data collection.

Special Requirements
- The role will spend approximately 60% in an office setting and 40% in the laboratory. There will be exposure to animal pathogens and chemicals. There will be handling of and/or exposure to animal tissue and zoonotic organisms.
- Ability to don and wear personal protective gear, including respirators.
- Physical activity including lifting (up to 50lbs), carrying (up to 40lbs for up to 50 feet), pushing/pulling (up to 75lbs force), reaching, gripping/pinching, standing and ascending ladder without restriction.
- Ability to work beyond typical work schedule including but not limited to evenings, weekends, extended shifts with short notice.
