Lead Toddler Guide Job description

Northern Blooms Montessori is seeking a Toddler Lead Guide who is passionate about the Montessori method and its benefits for children while being part of a supportive community network.

As Lead Guide (teacher), you are responsible for developing a cohesive teaching team, coordinating the curriculum, and managing the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom. Guides must understand children's cognitive, social, emotional and physical development in order to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. The Guide must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults in order to meet the needs of the children, effectively guide teacher assistants, and resolve parental concerns.

Key Responsibilities:

  • in a loving and nurturing way, encouraging the social, cognitive and emotional growth of the children.
  • Collaborate with an assistant to develop an authentic Montessori class serving the diversity of our local community, as part of a micro-school.
  • Implement the Montessori curriculum by developing classroom activities based on developmentally appropriate practices and early learning standards, ensuring that all materials are in good shape at all times, and developing new materials as needed.
  • Work with other Commongrounds tenant-owners and community as a representative of Northern Blooms Montessori.
  • Lead by example: encourage teaching team success through modeling and coaching.
  • Plan individual and group age-appropriate activities to actively engage children and encourage social, cognitive and emotional growth.
  • Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions, progress reports, and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Ensure a healthy classroom environment - including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety and security of children. Will include diapering in the toddler classroom.
  • Ensure all center policies and state regulations are maintained and met.
  • Supervise teacher assistants and classroom volunteers to ensure they are following planned activities, hygiene and safety standards.
  • Be part of professional development meetings and school events as a representative of the school community.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required

  • Must have a thorough understanding of Montessori philosophy and child development.
  • Montessori certified for ages 0-3, AMI, AMS, or MACTE (or strong desire to attend Montessori training in the next year)
  • Preferred 3 years of experience teaching (or assisting) in a Montessori classroom.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred, but not required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and basic administrative skills.
  • The ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents, and board) and to foster a team environment.
  • Prior experience with childcare licensing and reporting a plus
  • Infant/child/adult CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • The ability to take frequent walks, use hands and fingers, handle objects, tools or controls.
  • Must be able to kneel, bend, squat and sit on the floor for extended periods of time
  • Must clear background check, tuberculosis test, and complete any training required for licensing.
