What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Intern I-III, Power Settlements position at Northern CA Power Agency?

The position is responsible for the settlement validation and allocation of costs and revenues and associated inputs and billing determinants derived from transactions related to wholesale power generation, including solar photovoltaic (PV), battery energy storage systems (BESS), hydroelectric, geothermal, and natural gas resources. The employee works primarily with Oracle relational databases to perform existing and/or ad hoc queries from large datasets that are summarized and extracted to spreadsheets, in addition to other various computer applications used for data retrieval, analysis, data validation, and reporting.
Examples of Duties:
• Review wholesale energy market financial results to identify, research, and resolve settlement and/or billing determinant variances.
• Validate meter data associated with various generation sources, including renewable energy and variable intermittent resources.
• Analyze large time-series datasets to identify trends, anomalies, and outliers in wholesale energy pricing and megawatt-hour (MWh) electricity generation data.
• Allocate costs to participants of various projects, contracts, programs, services, etc.
• Track GHG (Greenhouse Gas) obligations for thermal resources and energy imported into California. Track and validate Renewable Energy Credits.
• Provide regular feedback to other agency divisions regarding settlement outcomes.
Knowledge of:
• Microsoft Office Suite, Excel proficiency preferred.
• Oracle/Structured Query Language (SQL).
• Strong organizational skills.
• Office equipment and systems such as phones, copiers, scanners, and email.
Ability to:
• Read, analyze, and interpret California Independent System Operator (CAISO) tariff, NCPA operating agreements and contracts, standard industry purchase power agreements, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
• Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals and effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
• Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
• Communicate in clear, concise, and professional ways, both orally and in writing.
• Work both individually and in a team setting.
Qualifications:
Academic status at an accredited college or university taking courses as a full-time student with a concentration in Economics, Business, Accounting, or a similar related field leading to a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in a field related to the work which is performed.
