The annual salary for the Public Safety Radio Dispatcher Trainee classification is $94,057.50 per year. This includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay and a (3.75%) Public Safety Radio Dispatcher Certification Pay.
Upon successful completion of training, Public Safety Radio Dispatcher Trainees are eligible for promotion to the Public Safety Radio Dispatcher classification. The salary range for the Public Safety Radio Dispatcher classification is currently $104,457.99 – $126,981.03 annually. This includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay and a (3.75%) Public Safety Radio Dispatcher Certification Pay.
The PSRD position is a dynamic and integral link in the chain of public safety. PSRDs serve a critical role in assuring that emergency services are delivered promptly and effectively.
- Answer 9-1-1 emergency and non-emergency calls for fire department and emergency medical assistance.
- Provide life-saving instructions to callers until responders arrive, including CPR, choking rescue, and childbirth instructions.
- Ensure that responders are sent to the correct location, equipped with the information they need to handle the emergency.
- Support the needs of responders throughout emergency incidents, assisting incident commanders with managing and tracking resources.
- The PSRDT position is the San Jose Fire Department’s entry-level classification for those interested in a challenging and rewarding career in 9-1-1 emergency communications.
