Northern Cochise Community Hospital (NCCH) is a Critical Access Hospital seeking a Full-Time Staff Pharmacist/PIC

The Pharmacist/PIC is responsible for all aspects of the hospital pharmacy and for input and consultation with Rural Health Clinic medications. This is a one-pharmacist facility and functions as a working pharmacist.

Summary:  Under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer/CNO or designated administrator, Pharmacist/PIC is responsible for planning, budgeting, directing and supervising pharmacy activities and personnel.  Acts as a resource for all healthcare providers, and monitors efficacy and safety of medication administration.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

Develops departmental goals and objectives and implements policies and procedures.

Participates in and implements Quality Improvement activities, such as medical error prevention.

Acts as a liaison with Nursing and medical staff for prescriptions, orders, patient reactions, etc.

Manages and oversees department budget.

Prepares, directs, and maintains departmental reports.


Secondary Functions:

Advises patients and family on use of various medications and dosage.

Supervises inventory control to meet patient needs.

Selects vendors and directly inspects pharmaceutical items received.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

Management responsibilities may include the following:

 Cost and Revenue

  • Engage in business development
  • Manage inventory/supply costs
  • Manage staff costs
  • Prepare budgets/manage variances
  • Review charges and daily billing

 Manages department compliance with licensing and certification standards

  • Conduct annual review of policy and procedures
  • Initiate new policies and procedures

Manages quality assurance, performance improvement and patient/staff safety/risk

  • Establish patient and staff safety procedures
  • Establish Quality indicators and analysis data
  • Initiate performance activities

Prepares annual performance and operational goals and targeted activities

  • Monitor progress of goals and activities

 Staff Management

  • Conduct employee performance evaluations
  • Conduct staff meetings
  • Conduct training/orientation
  • Establish work schedule
  • Interview and select staff

 

Education and/or Experience:

Graduate of an accredited pharmaceutical program. 

1-2 years previous hospital experience preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Current, unrestricted Pharmacist License from the AZ State Board of Pharmacy.

Current, BLS/CPR Certification (American Heart Association Only) upon date of hire, and maintained.

 Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Advanced knowledge of hospital-based pharmacy operations. 

Excellent written and verbal communication.

Must be detailed oriented and have tactical planning ability.  

Ability to maintain and develop professional growth.

This person must have upbeat aptitude, work alongside other team members, problem solve and deliver the highest quality customer service. Requires the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others including physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, administrators, managers, vendors, and other health care industry personnel.
