Description
The Lead Fleet Mechanic is responsible for the repairs and maintenance of Northern Concrete automotive fleet as well as light and heavy-duty construction equipment. This is position will report to the Shop Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Prioritize all work in the most efficient manner to achieve minimum fleet downtime and while organizing and coordinating the workflow of staff.
· Sees that all repair orders, PM lists and parts accountability are completely documented.
· Determines vehicle and equipment condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests to identify worn and damaged parts.
· Performs adjustments and alignments to correct vehicle deficiencies.
· Troubleshoot, diagnose, rebuild, replace, and complete required repairs on company equipment.
· Ensures that all preventative maintenance is performed and within company standards.
· Ensures that all vehicle deficiencies are addressed by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as power and drive trains, electrical, clutches, air conditioning, fuel system, emission, brake, steering, hydraulic system, and tires. Welding as needed.
· Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with workplace safety rules and regulations and government guidelines.
· Maintain inventory of fleet parts and consumable supplies and maintain proper record keeping.
· Backup and supervise shop personnel as needed.
· Shuttle equipment to and from shop and repair facilities and handle road service calls as needed.
· Interact with drivers and staff to communicate fleet status and actively work to accomplish fleet availability.
· Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
· 10 or more years of general mechanic and equipment maintenance experience
· 5 or more years of diesel engine repairs
· Experience with small engine repair
· Basic knowledge of welding and fabrication
· Ability to lead up to 5 team members
· Valid Driver’s License
· CDL or ability to obtain with 1-year
CERTIFICATIONS: Obtain and maintain within one (1) month of hire the following:
• Valid drivers’ license (Highly Preferred).
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
• Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Ability to stand between 1/3 and 2/3 of the time.
• Ability to walk between 1/3 and 2/3 of the time.
• Ability to sit between 1/3 and 2/3 of the time.
• Ability to use hands greater than 2/3 of the time.
• Ability to reach with hands and arms greater than 2/3 of the time.
• Ability to climb or balance between 1/3 and 2/3 of the time.

• Ability to lift/carry 50 pounds or more 1/3 of the time.
• Ability to push or pull up to 150 pounds less than 1/3 of the time.
• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds less than 1/3 of the time.
• Ability to use close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus more than 2/3 of the time.
