Northern Counties Health Care is seeking a Medical Assistant (MA) to join our Danville Health Center team. As a key member of our patient care team, you will work under the direction of the Nurse Manager and providers to ensure efficient clinical support and quality patient care.
Responsibilities
- Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with state, federal, and organizational policies.
- Prepare patient charts before appointments to ensure all required lab work and diagnostic reports are available.
- Obtain and document patient vital signs, height, weight, and reason for visit in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Assist providers with patient examinations and procedures.
- Perform venipuncture, capillary sticks, urine specimen collection, and basic laboratory testing following proper protocols.
- Conduct routine diagnostic testing, including EKGs and pulmonary function tests.
- Educate patients by providing appropriate materials related to health maintenance and treatments.
- Maintain clean and well-stocked exam rooms, nursing areas, and lab spaces.
- Handle medical supply inventory, verifying shipments and resolving backorders as needed.
- Adhere to infection control and safety protocols, including proper sterilization of instruments.
- Participate in quality assurance activities and ongoing training to ensure best practices.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon employment and must be maintained.
- Completion of an approved Medical Assistant or Nursing Assistant program preferred.
- Minimum one year of experience in a clinical setting (such as a medical office or community health center) preferred.
- Strong ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues.
- Skilled in handling multiple priorities, problem-solving, and working in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in computer systems, including EMR, Microsoft Word, and basic office software.
- Knowledge of Standard Precautions and infection control protocols.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and work in a physically active environment.
