What are the responsibilities and job description for the Swiss CNC Set-up Operator position at Northern Gear and Machining?
- Read machining instructions, blueprints, work orders, and specification sheets to define machine settings and fixtures.
- Properly powering up and down the machine, load, and unload parts, ensure proper tooling.
- Set up and operate machine to verify accuracy of CNC settings or programs, calculating and setting controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut. May need to compute gear dimensions or machine settings.
- Verifies conformance of parts to specifications using micrometers, gages, and computerized gear checker.
- Comply with all work instructions, following and maintaining ISO/QS Standards and Northern Gear & Machining procedures, and quality certification requirements.
- Conduct all assigned and necessary preventative maintenance procedures, detect machine malfunctions, test operation of machine for functionality and performance, and making adjustments as needed.
- Confer with engineers, programmers, production employees, and management to resolve machining issues, while maintaining continuous improvement, improved tool life, reduction of tooling costs, machine downtime, improved set up time, and implementation of quality improvements.
- Assisting/Training operators as needed.
- Other job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Requires physical ability and stamina to perform the essential functions of the position. Ability to walk, stand, lift, carry up to 40 pounds, push, kneel, bend, stoop, reach over and under waist level, twist for extended periods of time on cement.
- Demonstrate the verbal and written communications necessary to complete forms, input data into computer quality, production and engineering programs, and exchange information with other team members.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints.
- Operate in a fast-paced production atmosphere.
- 1 years of set-up and operating of a Swiss CNC (required).
This is a 1st shift position.
Monday - Friday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm.
