RESPONSIBILITIES 90% of time
1. Maintains accounting and medical record of each patient with a well-organized system of billing and documentation.
2. Enters data on all new patients into the computer system.
3. Verifies insurance coverage for each patient.
4. Assists with billing, bad debts, reworks and judgments as needed.
5. Prepares deposit slip for payments received, balancing each day to encounter forms.
6. Answer telephone and relays messages in a timely and courteous manner.
7. Assists with preparation of daily charges and receipts for Northern Regional Health in an accurate and timely manner.
8. Collects data from all patients to assure appropriate billing and vital statistical information is available.
9. Assures all documents are signed in a timely manner, i.e., billing approval.
10. Schedules appointments for all patients in a courteous and friendly manner. Coordinates flow of patients for maximum efficiency.
11. Reviews all demographic information with patient at every visit.
12. Assures correct message is on the voice mail.
13. Collects and distributes mail that is delivered daily.
14. Assists with billing.
15. Assists with clinical area as needed.
16. Keeps accurate account of Petty Cash log.
17. Informs Office Manager/Supervisor when supplies are needed.
18. Assures office is covered during regularly scheduled hours.
19. Purges medical records annually.
20. Prepares medical release forms, copies and mails medical records in a timely manner.
21. Types office correspondence as needed.
22. Files patient charts daily.
23. Processes Referrals or Prior Authorization if needed.
24. Uses two patient identifiers.
25. Prints summary of visit when checking out.
26. Forwards faxes and document links to patient’s accounts to physicians for signature.
27. Completes FMLA and Disability forms.
MISCELLANEOUS 10% of time
1. Adheres to all hospital policies and procedures those related to compliance, general and patient safety, infection control, ethical conduct, and personnel policies & procedures.
2. Maintains acceptable attendance which includes providing proper notification and advance notice for absence/tardiness. Returns from breaks & lunch promptly.
3. Ensures strict confidentiality of patient and NRH information at all times.
4. Assumes responsibility for attending all required in-service education classes including safety update program.
5. Works cooperatively and as a team player with co-workers.
6. Utilizes excellent customer service skills.
7. Performs additional duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- One year secretarial experience, filing, general office procedures or patient access.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand English clearly and fluently.
- Excellent communication skills, including clear explanation of complicated insurance coverages and payment concepts.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
- Medical office reimbursement or Medicare/Medicaid related to field of reimbursement experience
- Patient Scheduling experience and/or insurance/billing experience in a hospital or physician practice.
- Degree in Business Administration or Medical Office Administration
- Medical Terminology course(s)
