What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Associate position at Northern Illinois Food?
POSITION SUMMARY
Support the operations of the Geneva Distribution Center through interaction with staff, volunteers, and agency partners (customers) to assure responsibilities are handled in a proper and timely manner. These duties cover any of the center’s production operations including planning processing projects, supervising volunteers, and managing project completion.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan and prepare for center processing projects based on volunteer registration.
- Supervise volunteer shifts, including conducting volunteer training. Shifts will include some evenings and weekends.
- Participate in and oversee day-to-day Processing Room operations including set-up of room, handling reclaimed, food drive, and assorted food donations, and storing and processing inventory.
- Maintain a safe working environment for staff and volunteers, following food safety guidelines.
- Conduct safety training for volunteers and monitor and coach volunteers on safe work practices.
- Assist food bank agencies that come to the branch with getting and/or loading their orders, shopping for available products, posting their orders, receiving payments for orders, and forwarding paperwork to appropriate departments at main facility.
- Operate a forklift to move product.
- Help maintain the facility’s health and sanitation standards.
- Help support the Center’s and Operation’s Department production schedule by meeting both output quotas and quality standards.
- Administer quality assurance program including standards and processes, and tracking.
- Load and/or unload NIFB vehicles when needed.
- Adhere to the food safety standards established by Northern Illinois Food Bank as outlined by Feeding America and per AIB accreditation. This includes all applicable training.
- Perform other related duties and/or responsibilities as assigned or required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- 3 years’ experience in a warehouse, manufacturing, industrial environment preferred.
- Effective at giving direction and answering questions with excellent customer focus
- Ability to develop and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with volunteers, staff, and management
- Ability to be certified on forklift and/or electric pallet jack.
- Strong organizational skills with people, products, and projects.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
- Self-starter; able to take initiative in providing excellent customer service.
- Ability to frequently communicate with large groups.
- Ability to consistently lift 50 pounds and occasionally handle boxes up to 75 pounds with assistance.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- The starting pay range for this position is $16.87/hr - $20.57/hr, based on skills and experience.
- This position’s working Schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 AM through 12:00 PM Saturday as needed.
- This position is based out of our West Suburban Center (Geneva) location.
- Some local travel required. Must have dependable transportation and ability and flexibility to drive long distances (e.g., to Rockford, IL), as needed.
