What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator/Project Manager position at Northern Improvement Company?
Job purpose
This position will prepare cost estimates of construction projects by analyzing proposals, reviewing bid plans and specifications. This position will work closely with the project team to ensure scope of work and crew schedules can complete the work while coordinating day-to-day activities. This position is expected to visit jobsites to ensure the project is staying on schedule. This position will estimate projects that are located in Western ND, Eastern Montana, and Eastern Wyoming. This position can work out of our Dickinson, ND or Bismarck, ND office.
Duties and responsibilities
- Bid and project manage state, county, city, and private projects
- Analysis of publications and perform internet research on upcoming projects to bid in various states
- Monitor field operations and produce and update scheduling for managed projects
- Yearly updates on various programs (e.g. patching, paving, and sealing)
- Represent the company appropriately in all meetings and appearances with clients and vendors
- Assist in billing out private work invoices
- Maintain CONFIDENTIALITY of all project-related information
- Regular attendance at the workplace and/or project site is required
- All other duties as assigned, delegated, or necessary for operations
Estimating and Project Management:
: measure areas; submit quotes; meet with utility locates; verify and estimate survey/grade; schedule with owners and foremen; track costs and invoice work
: bidding process; scheduling with engineers and foremen; meet with utility locates; verify and estimate survey/grade; process sub-estimates; project final
: bidding process; submit schedule to engineers; schedule with foremen; hold weekly construction meetings; process sub-estimates; project final
: measure stockpiles; materials inventory; year-end reports; check if all miscellaneous work was invoiced and received; check on contracted work pay estimates and sub-estimates; compile carryover work list and dollar volume
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field
- Three (3) years minimum Estimating/Project Management experience desired
- Previous experience in paving construction activities preferred
- Microsoft Excel (advanced experience) and Microsoft Project(some experience preferred but not required)
- Valid Driver’s License Required
- Ability to pass a pre-employment urine drug test and comply with drug and alcohol policies during employment
Working conditions
- Indoor/Outdoor environment subject to changing conditions and temperatures
- Occasional exposures to fumes, dust, odors, heights, and loud noises.
Physical requirements
- Verbal, auditory, and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner.
- Clarity of vision at varying distances to perform various work assignments.
- Standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods of time.
- Reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally.
- Ability to sit at a computer terminal for extended periods of time.
- Occasional bending, kneeling, or crouching.
