What are the responsibilities and job description for the EVS Floor Technician position at Northern Inyo Healthcare District?
JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for cleaning, maintaining and waxing of floors, cleaning and maintaining tile floors, cleaning and maintaining Nora floors, cleaning of carpets and furniture. Must also cross train equivalent to EVS Attendant, maintaining the cleanliness of the hospital, and for the completion of any tasks necessary to ensure this cleanliness.
JOB RELATIONSHIPS:
- Directly responsible to Environmental Services Manager.
- Works closely with EVS Leads and EVS Assistant Manager.
- Works closely with hospital district leadership and departments as well as internal and external customers.
OCCUPATIONAL HAZARDS:
Works in the general hospital setting. May be exposed to blood, body fluids, or tissues as well as patients in varying stages of infectious states.

- Provides a clean, safe environment for patients, staff, self and visitors.
- Observes for floors or carpets needing cleaning, buffing, or waxing; and either completes or notifies the manager if needed.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of assigned EVS equipment, ensures that all equipment is maintained and in good condition.
- Works with EVS managers and/or Leaders to determine priorities.
- Complete EVS attendant duties occasionally when operation demands
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- The Mission, Vision, and Values of Northern Inyo Healthcare District;
- NIHD policies and procedures, including Compliance Program, Code of Conduct, and Confidentiality standards;
- NIHD safety policies and procedures, including the Rainbow Chart, Employee Health, and Infection Prevention standards
- Good working knowledge of the hospital infection control and environmental standards.
Skills/Abilities to:
- Must be able to understand, read and write English clearly
- Must be able to operate floor cleaning machines such as a high speed burnisher, walk behind burnisher, walk behind floor cleaner, low speed scrubber, walk behind and floor scrubber, wand extractor, walk behind extractor, doodle scrubber, shop vac and wax mop system.

Demonstrates flexible and efficient time management and ability to prioritize workload
- Establish and maintain professional working relationships with NIHD staff at all levels as well as the public
- Develop and maintain a high degree of maturity, integrity, and good judgement
- Basic Computer Skills including the ability to use Microsoft Outlook
- Fulfills physical requirements as documented on the attached form
- Flexible, positive, and able to work independently
- Ability to perform work duties around co-workers, patients, and visitors.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or GED
Experience:
- 1-year Janitorial experience
Preferred:
Experience:
- 1-year Previous Floor Care experience in an institutional setting.
- 1-year Previous carpet cleaning experience
- 1-year EVS experience at NIHD
