Financial Planning Analyst

JOB SUMMARY :

The Financial Planning Analyst collects, analyzes and presents data for planning / cost containment and comparison. The Financial Planning Analyst is involved in the actual performance of accounts payable-related and other job tasks in the General Accounting Office including but not limited to payroll, inventory, property, and general ledger functions.

JOB RELATIONSHIPS :

  • Directly responsible to Controller
  • Works closely with CFO, hospital leadership team, and accounting office

OCCUPATIONAL HAZARDS :

Works in the general hospital setting. May be exposed to blood, body fluids, or tissues as well as patients in varying stages of infectious states.

  • Prepare monthly reports for month-end close including variance analysis.
  • Complete month end statistics.
  • Create month / year end correcting journal entries as necessary.
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations as necessary.
  • Create and publish month-end reports for department leaders and board.
  • Provides technical assistance to department heads in preparing budget during the year, with any problems in current budget.
  • Assists in the preparation of quarterly operational forecasts for current and future years using statistical and modeling techniques.
  • Create adhoc reports for senior leaders as requested.
  • Works closely with management to develop new business strategies and programs including preparation of business plans, market opportunity, and expected financial and utilization performance.
  • Collaborate with Controller and CFO to prepare annual budget.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual reports for state and federal governments.
  • Setup, maintain, and utilize cost accounting system to ensure accurate financial information.
  • Create and maintain data for market and service line analysis as necessary.
  • Assist with banking duties by making deposits as necessary.
  • Assist payroll specialist as needed to include responding, researching, analyzing, and resolving problems or issues presented by employees and management regarding timekeeping, payroll, and payroll deductions. Handles routine payroll inquiries and issues from employees and supervisors.
  • Conduct Hospital business in an ethical and lawful manner, and is willing to report any knowledge of real or potential fraud or abuse according to the NIH Compliance Code of Conduct.
  • Prepares and retains records, files, and reports in accordance with facility policies and standards forms.
  • Other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

    Knowledge of :

  • The Mission, Vision, and Values of Northern Inyo Healthcare District;
  • NIHD policies and procedures, including Compliance Program, Code of Conduct, and Confidentiality standards;
  • NIHD safety policies and procedures, including the Rainbow Chart, Employee Health, and Infection Prevention standards;
  • Modern accounting practices and policies;
  • Healthcare statistics and accounting technical skills including KPIs, variance analysis, budget planning, and government reporting requirements;
  • Cost accounting setup, maintenance, and review;
  • Knowledge of payroll and accounts payable process.
  • Skills / Abilities to :

  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with NIHD staff and the public;
  • Establish and maintain professional working relationships with NIHD staff at all levels as well as the public;
  • Develop and maintain a high degree of maturity, integrity, and good judgement;
  • Effective problem solving, critical thinking, conflict management, time management and teamwork;
  • Computer skills including EMR navigation and advanced Microsoft excel skills;
  • Communicates effectively and has strong presentation skills;
  • Works independently using project management skills;
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment under tight deadlines.
  • Builds strong working relationships and has exceptional leadership skills.
  • Minimum Qualifications :

    Experience :

    Must have at least 2 years of financial planning experience.

    Education :

    Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, finance, accounting, or a related major or equivalent professional experience.

    Certification : n / a

    Preferred : Experience :

    2 years of healthcare experience in a hospital environment;

    Cost accounting setup, maintenance, and analysis.

    Master’s degree
