Description

POSITION TITLE: YOUTH PROGRAM DIRECTOR

 

REPORTS TO: Vice President of Family Services  

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Manage the Youth Program operations, including staff and participants. Responsible for budget management, coordination of participant services (case management), collaborative partner relations, developing and maintaining relationships with Funders and AmeriCorps, and participant payroll and disciplinary systems with a focus on promoting participant holistic well-being.

Salary:  $55k

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide overall management of the agency’s Youth program. Ensure the program complies with all contractual requirements and regulations, AmeriCorps regulations, and outcome measures.
  2. Develop and implement participant recruitment, orientation, assessment, and selection process that meets program guidelines. Provide program orientation for new participants and life skills training to identified participants.
  3. Develop training activities that help participants develop marketable job skills to enhance job readiness, marketability, and placement. Plan and organize program operations, including curriculum, guidelines, procedures, and manuals.
  4. Develop and maintain close working relationships with program partners like Life Learning Center, Gateway CTC, local school districts, local courts, employers, etc.
  5. Provide program staff training, supervision, direction, performance management, and work assignments.
  6. Oversee the maintenance of participant files (general and electronic) and records in accordance with program and employment documentation compliance requirements. Ensure timely enrollment, exit, and outcome documentation is entered into the funder-required databases as required.
  7. Oversee the AmeriCorps program to ensure that Youth Program members are engaged in meaningful public service work to help others and meet critical needs in the community.
  8. Ensure participant time logs meet program requirements, with time and attendance documented according to program guidelines.
  9. Develop and maintain positive relationships with NKWIB, AmeriCorps, and Kentucky Commission of Volunteer and Community Service (KCVCS), and other funders as developed.
  10. Prepare and submit all required internal and external reports timely and efficiently.
  11. Prepare and manage budgets as assigned, ensuring that the budget and spending comply with contractual requirements. Secure and document match funds, including in-kind match, as required. Help raise program funds from public and private funding sources to enhance/expand the services and provide the required match.
  12. Ensure participants are evaluated semi-annually and at completion.
  13. Proactively market the program, services, and outcomes in the community to secure additional service opportunities for AmeriCorps hours, volunteers, donations, partners, and participants. In conjunction with the Marketing department, prepare or arrange public information materials such as brochures, recruitment materials, newsletters, and posters.
  14. Maintain program certifications as required.
  15. Develop and maintain professional connectivity with state and local government staffing and employment development programs, including the region’s One-Stop Centers. Develop personal and professional relationships with private and public sector employers to facilitate job placement of participants.
  16. Support pre- and post-placement participants in job search, interviewing, and retention activities. Seek job shadow, internship, on-the-job training, and volunteer opportunities for trainees. Maintain contact with participants for a minimum of one year past program participation.
  17. Create, implement, and maintain a system to document records of contacts, relationships, and outcomes with employers and placed graduates, demographic information on customers, job search tracking, job retention tracking, and processing of trainee time and attendance.
  18. Actively participate in professional development, program collaboration, strategic planning, and other organizational development activities, as assigned.
  19. Promote the Agency’s mission, vision, values, and standards.
  20. Ensure initial and ongoing compliance with all program and grant requirements.
  21. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in organizational management, Social Work, Education, or a related field
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in social services organization
  • Supervisory experience required.
  • Knowledge of Federal rules and regulations governing grants and contracts
  • Understanding of basic principles of public and community relations, methods of report preparation and presentation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and on-line databases is required.   Above average computer and computer-based communication, and social networking skills required.
  • Strong commitment to helping young people succeed in an innovative training program, to reorient their lives, nurture their leadership skills, and enable them to make a difference in their community.
  • Prior experience working with disadvantaged and at-risk youth and the ability to establish rapport and relate sensitively to a low income, multiracial and multicultural group of young people preferred.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Must have ability to work as part of a team.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to work with a diverse workforce. 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit at, read, and enter data onto a computer for prolonged periods (up to 50%) of the time.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs. up to 25% of the time.
