Position Summary:
NLEA is seeking one or more college student(s) and/or recent graduate(s) passionate about Northern Lower Michigan to work as paid intern(s).
The Communications and Events Coordinator internship position will be responsible for supporting NLEA’s communications, marketing, and events. We are seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented individual to help advance our organization’s mission through engaging social media, newsletter, website, and printed content. Additionally, this position will support NLEA’s Choose the North talent retention and attraction campaign. We will consider both part-time and full-time employment. This is a temporary grant-funded position. Employment is not guaranteed beyond December 31, 2025.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and develop written content and graphics for NLEA social media accounts, website, presentations, and newsletter.
- Develop marketing materials for NLEA events.
- Manage a marketing calendar of events, NLEA press releases, social media content, and more.
- Support the planning and execution of all NLEA virtual and in-person events, adhering to deadlines and budgets.
- Develop event materials, manage printing and shipping of materials (e.g. programs and signage), adhering to event deadlines and budgets.
- This position may include additional duties as assigned by the NLEA President.
Qualifications:

- 1-2 years of experience relevant professional experience and/or education.
- Currently enrolled in college courses or recently graduated.
- A clear and courteous communication style when working with various audiences;
- Excellent organizational and multi-tasking abilities;
- Exceptional attention to detail, meeting tight deadlines, and working well under pressure while maintaining a customer-service oriented attitude;
- Strong, proactive problem-solving skills, especially when it comes to troubleshooting logistical issues and technical difficulties;
- Strong interpersonal skills that embody collaboration and a team-oriented approach
- Willingness to think creatively, ask questions, and share ideas;
- Experience working with graphic design tools like Canva, social media, and websites;
- Strong writing and/or copyediting ability is preferred;
- Background or interest in community or economic development is a plus;
- Willingness to travel domestically for meetings and events, and work evenings and weekends.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, carry, and move items up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand, sit, and walk frequently.
- Ability to balance, stoop, bend, and twist.
- Ability to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms frequently.
- Ability to adjust focus and have close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception (with or without corrective lenses).
