Membership Specialist Position Description
Job Summary
Supports district leadership by performing functions that generally do not require the same level of discretion and independent judgement as those handled by an exempt professional. Duties may include, but are not limited to, performing specific youth recruiting tasks as assigned or unit services related tasks. Also, in consultation with an exempt employee, an incumbent in this position may direct the work of certain support functions. This role specifically WILL NOT have direct responsibility for any governance committee such as the district Key 3 or nominating committee. This individual may, or may not, be working toward a District Executive role.
Overview:
Working with the District Executive work to ensure the following are achieved:
· Ensure that each Scout Unit is offering the best program possible to as many youth members as possible.
· Work to make sure each unit has appropriate calendars, budgets, and volunteers.
· Ensure youth membership growth through the efforts of the district membership committee.
· Work with units to achieve desired product sale goals.
· Working with the Unit Support Team keep units from dropping and increases youth retention.
· Promotion of all summer camp opportunities by working with the council camping committee.
· Ensure that community service projects are being done and educate unit leaders on how to track the service hours.
· Working with the District and Council Training teams, ensure that units are receiving regular training in support of their program.
· Regular visibility in the local media and at community events (fairs, parades, etc.)
Primary Responsibilities:
· Recruit youth to existing units through robust year-round recruitment.
· Support new units.
· Increase unit and youth retention (0 dropped units and 75% retention).
· Support units with appropriate Cub Scout and Scout BSA events.
· Promote summer camp thru camp promotions.
· Promote Ideal Year of Scouting to units.
· Work with the training team to ensure 100% Youth Protection training of all leaders and 100% Leader Specific training of all direct contact leaders (CM, DL, SM, Crew Leader, and Post Advisor).
· Achieve goals in product sales.
· Keep scouting visible in the community via support of community events (fairs, parades, etc.) and active “scout storytelling” to local TV, radio, etc.
· Build relationships with School leadership and charter organizations.
· Work with the advancement team to assure 80% of all Cub Scouts advance in rank yearly and 60% of all Scouts BSA advance in rank yearly.
Secondary Responsibilities:

Qualities needed:
Recruiter, service, and leadership mentality with volunteers, works well with peers, a doer, tireless work ethic, goal orientation, has some vision, energetic, well spoken, excellent writing skills, good listener, organization and communication skills, sales abilities, lives by Scout Oath & Law. Must reside in Devils Lake, ND.
Work Schedule:
This is a year-round part-time position.
· 15 - 20 hours per week
· Mostly afternoons and evenings (some daytime and weekends)
· Must have a Driver’s License as travel is required.
· Will reimburse .67 cents per mileage on approved work-related travels.
