What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Support Specialist position at Northern Maine General?
Northern Maine General is looking for a Peer Support Specialist to serve clients in Central and Northern Aroostook County. The Peer Support Specialist uses their own unique, life-altering experience in order to guide, support, and interact with others who are in some form of recovery. This typically refers to clients recovering from mental health disorders. Peer Support Specialists identify strategies to assist the client in accessing resources and support. They monitor and supervise the client’s behavior and participation in the treatment program, and they consult with the Program Manager to assure the safety of the clients and program.
Candidate must have the ability to obtain a Peer Support Specialist certification and have personal experience with mental health relevant to the services being provided, is in recovery, and is willing to self-identify on this basis with Behavioral Health Home members. The candidate must have the ability to understand and relate positively to high need clients along with a demonstrated ability to write in a clear, concise manner. Candidate must also be able to communicate well with individuals and small groups.
There is currently a need for 5-6 hours per week, mostly in the afternoons. Candidate must be able to drive throughout Aroostook County using their own vehicle. Candidate must have a valid driver’s license.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00 - $19.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 28 per week
