Position Summary : An Echo Technologist plays a crucial role in the NMMC Radiology Department by utilizing advanced ultrasound technology to produce high-quality images of a patient's heart and circulatory system. Your expertise will assist physicians in diagnosing and monitoring various cardiac conditions, enabling the delivery of accurate and timely patient care. This role requires a combination of technical proficiency, interpersonal skills, and a commitment to patient well-being.

Duties & Responsibilities :

  • Perform echocardiograms (ultrasound examinations of the heart) using specialized equipment and techniques.
  • Ensure patient comfort and safety throughout the procedure, explaining the process and addressing any concerns.
  • Accurately position patients and adjust equipment settings to obtain clear and comprehensive images of the heart and related structures.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to determine the specific requirements of each examination and adapt the procedure accordingly.
  • Assess and analyze echocardiographic images to identify abnormalities or anomalies, such as valve disorders, heart defects, and cardiac function issues.
  • Maintain detailed records of procedures, patient information, and image documentation in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment, troubleshoot technical issues, and ensure proper calibration.
  • Assist with the implementation of quality control and quality assurance protocols to uphold imaging standards.
  • Participate in continuing education and training to stay current with evolving technologies and industry best practices.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including the storage and disposal of hazardous materials in compliance with safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to provide valuable insights into patient care plans and treatment options.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or higher in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or a related field.
  • Certification as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or equivalent credential.
  • State licensure or certification as required by applicable regulations.
  • Strong understanding of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
  • Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting ultrasound equipment.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact compassionately with patients and their families.
  • Detail-oriented and capable of maintaining accurate records.
  • Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to ethical and professional standards.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment, adapting to varying patient needs and schedules.
  • Willingness to participate in continuing education and stay updated on industry trends and advancements.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity to maneuver equipment and assist patients as needed.
  • Prior experience in a clinical or hospital setting is preferred.
