Job Summary
The Environmental Service Professional maintains environmental and infection control standards within established policies and procedures of Northern Maine Medical Center. The position performs a variety of general cleaning tasks to maintain patient rooms, offices, hallways and other assigned areas of the facility under frequent supervision. Occasionally, uses assistance of one Environmental Service Professional on some nursing floors to perform tasks. The position distributes and maintains stock levels on nursing floors and in storage rooms. The position follows standard practices and procedures and complies with regulatory requirements.
Essential Functions
The Environmental Service Professional maintains environmental and infection control standards within established policies and procedures of Northern Maine Medical Center. The position performs a variety of general cleaning tasks to maintain patient rooms, offices, hallways and other assigned areas of the facility under frequent supervision. Occasionally, uses assistance of one Environmental Service Professional on some nursing floors to perform tasks. The position distributes and maintains stock levels on nursing floors and in storage rooms. The position follows standard practices and procedures and complies with regulatory requirements.
Essential Functions
- Cleans and disinfects all fixtures, floors, mirrors, windows, doors and walls of rooms and bathrooms.
- Gathers and disposes of trash and waste materials using specified bags or containers.
- Cleans patient rooms, examination room, kitchenette, and medicine room on a daily basis.
- Cleans offsite apartments on an as-needed-basis.
- Performs terminal cleaning procedures of patient rooms and prepares rooms for new occupants; follows isolation procedures in isolation rooms.
- Removes drapes and cubical curtains and brings to soiled linen room in Laundry as needed.
- Sanitizes bathrooms daily.
- Refills towel dispenser and toilet paper as needed.
- Spot washes walls as needed.
- Cleans all floors. Dry/Wet-mops floors of rooms, halls and other areas.
- Cleans furniture daily.
- Vacuums upholstery furniture as needed. Vacuums carpets weekly. Operates related environmental service equipment.
- Washes windows as needed.
- Cleans patient refrigerator as needed.
- Dusts t.v. sets, furniture, woodwork and equipment and vents, fan fixtures, top of windows, doorframes and other high areas using a ladder.
- Polishes and cleans fixtures in rooms and bathrooms.
- Disinfects drinking fountains daily. Removes hard water deposits as needed.
- Cleans linen storage and lobby Monday through Friday.
- Cleans all offices, meeting rooms, physical therapy, copy rooms, receiving room, and receiving dock, Monday through Friday.
- Cleans Dr.'s on call room, SCU, family room, E.R., and X-ray rooms daily.
- Cleans equipment after each use. Keeps cart and work areas neat and orderly, cleans equipment.
- Distributes and maintains stock levels on nursing floors and in storage rooms.
- Attends mandatory in-services on an annual basis. Satisfactory completion of required in-services and online learning.
- Follows instructions oral and written from supervisor or director.
- Follows the NMMC Code of Conduct at all times with colleagues, patients and visitors.
- Maintains strict confidentiality.
- Performs other duties as requested as deemed in the best interest of NMMC.
