The O.R. Housekeeper performs technical duties assuring that optimal cleanliness is obtained to control and reduce the possibility of cross-infection of the surgical patients and personnel in the OR / RR Department. In this specialty area, the housekeeping personnel receive appropriate training, allowing them to perform some duties that may differ from other departments.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Prepare solutions in A.M.
- Prepare O.R. Suite prior to first case.
- Assist staff in O.R. Suite after completion of each case.
- Perform between-case clean-up.
- Prepare the O.R. for the next case.
- Perform housekeeping duties between cases and as time permits.
- Assist with other O.R. duties such as maintaining supplies, assisting with transfer, or discharging of patients.
- Terminally clean operating rooms after completion of all scheduled cases.
- Answer telephone when no one else is free to do so.
- Adhere to Standard Precautions and Infection Control Practices.
- Perform related duties not listed therein but deemed in the best interest of the hospital.
- Attend mandatory in-services annually.
- Work as a member of the Nursing Department to help reinforce a culture of safety in the Nursing Department and organization wide.
- Perform daily checks to ensure proper functioning of equipment while maintaining the log.
- Perform and maintain competency in cleaning of endoscopes.EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE : High school or equivalent with ability to understand instructions.WORKER TRAITS :
- Manual dexterity is needed to work with hands and arms when performing such tasks as scouring sink, furnishings, and equipment, and dusting furniture, and mopping floors.
- Adapted to repetitive cleaning operation throughout the workday.
- Able to perform a variety of housecleaning functions under specific instructions and with very little need for individual judgment in working out problems.
- Safe Patient Handling is a competency class mandatory for clinical employees within our nursing department, mostly. The EVS person in this role often aids during patient transport to and from the OR, so this training should be included in their competencies. Learn More
