What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Build Technician position at Northern Manufacturing?
Northern Manufacturing, a worldwide leader in stainless steel fabrication, is seeking a mechanically inclined, hands-on technician to join our team. We have openings on 1st shift (M-F 6:00am - 3:30pm), or 3rd shift (M-R 7:30pm - 6:00am).
This is a hands-on position focused on custom, complex projects. This is not a repetitive assembly line job. You’ll be working on unique, one-of-a-kind metal fabrication projects after the welding phase. We’re looking for a problem-solver with a mechanical mindset, capable of adapting to new challenges every day and working both independently and collaboratively to bring unique customer projects to life.
Responsibilities include:
- Install and assemble mechanical components for custom-fabricated projects (gearboxes, motors, drums, etc.).
- Interpret mechanical blueprints to follow detailed build instructions and ensure proper installation of parts.
- Inspect your work and collaborate with team members to ensure high-quality, accurate builds.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues during the build process.
- Perform a variety of hands-on tasks such as finishing edges, tapping holes, and operating small equipment.
- Operate forklifts, cranes, and other tools to move materials safely.
- Keep a clean, organized, and safety-focused work environment.
At Northern Manufacturing, no two days are the same. You'll be working on unique, challenging projects that require creativity, adaptability, and a strong mechanical aptitude. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys solving problems, using their hands, and taking pride in helping make high-quality products.
Requirements:
- Mechanically inclined with experience using hand and power tools.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints (preferred).
- Understanding of metal components and fabrication environments.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive, self-starting mindset.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks (standing, climbing, reaching).
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Forklift experience preferred but not required.
Note: This position is not an assembly line or mass-production role. It requires mechanical knowledge, blueprint reading, and experience working on custom builds or fabrication projects.
