What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fitness Center Staff position at Northern Middlesex YMCA?
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This part time position is responsible for providing excellent customer service to members and maintaining a safe, clean and positive atmosphere in the Fitness Center at all times.
PRINCIPLE ACTIVITIES:
- Model the YMCA core values
- Provides a high level of personal attention to members during floor coverage through customer service and engagement, greeting members as they come in and making an effort to learn and use members’ names.
- Recognizes and approaches new members and suggests Fitness Consultation appointment if they have not yet made one.
- Assist with the promotion of any new or existing fitness programs to members.
- Conducts scheduled Fitness Consultations to new members in accordance with procedures set by the Fitness Director and implements follow-up communication to foster member retention.
- Monitors and instructs members as needed regarding safe and proper use of all equipment, including providing spots as needed.
- Be present and available to members in the appropriate areas during times of high use.
- Maintains adequate supplies in the fitness center and keeps all necessities stocked (pre-moistened wipes, paper towels, antibacterial spray, etc.)
- Conducts facility tours to drop-in prospective members on an as-needed basis
- Walk the floor on a regular basis during your floor coverage time to ensure general tidiness.
- Assist in maintenance and cleaning of all fitness equipment.
- Communicate any damage or needed repairs to equipment to the Fitness Facilities Coordinator.
- Communicates and/or enforces all policies and guidelines of the Fitness Center.
- Document any accidents, injuries or incidents in the Fitness Center.
- Attends all mandatory meetings and/or trainings required of the Fitness Staff
EFFECT ON END RESULT:
- A level of member satisfaction as reflected in member retention, member surveys and other measurement tools
- The highest level of service in the Fitness Center
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 1 year experience in a health & fitness center setting
- Current CPR/AED Certification or will get within 1 month of hire
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Must possess strong communication, customer service and interpersonal skills
- Must possess a running knowledge of general health & fitness as well as exercise equipment & its proper use
- Must be able to work as an integral member of a staff team.
- Must possess the ability to communicate effectively with adults, youth, seniors and special populations.
