What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kids Korner Site Director position at Northern Middlesex YMCA?
Full-Time, Monday thru Friday - School Year position
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Site Directors are on-site childcare workers in YMCA before and after school programs located at the elementary schools in Middletown, Cromwell, and Portland. Site Directors are leadership staff in charge of ensuring the overall successful day-to-day operations of Kids’ Korner programs.
SKILLS, POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES
- Head teacher certification OR Must be at least 20 years of age and a high school graduate with 540 hours of experience working with school age children and 12 college credits in child development, education, or a related field or a four year degree and 270 hours of experience.
- Must be available to work on site 80 percent of the program time (minimum of 20 hours per week).
- Regular attendance at monthly staff meetings and professional development workshops as well as 8 hours of training outside of YMCA sponsored training.
- Current First Aid and CPR Certification, and Administration of Medication Training (Injectables and Oral) or ability to get certified
- Complete CT CCDF Orientation once CPR, 1st Aid and medication certifications are achieved.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to move from one program site to another program site when necessary.
PRINCIPLE ACTIVITIES
1. Provide a caring, comfortable, physically and emotionally safe environment for the children in the program.
- Employing positive behavior guidance techniques to create a warm and nurturing space
- Incorporating youth voice to promote mutual respect between youth and adults
- Enforcing physical boundaries with and among students
2. Design and carry out curriculum that supports the development of all students regardless of ability including but not limited to physical activities, S.T.E.A.M., crafts, literacy enrichment, social emotional strategies clubs, and special events.
3. Keep regular communication with parents via parent board, monthly newsletter, behavioral check-ins and more as needed.
4. Be/Become familiar with Connecticut State Childcare regulations. Upkeep licensing requirements including proper ratio, supervision, staff and child paperwork, incident and accident reports, medication regulations, and more as needed.
5. Ensure quality care through staff supervision
- Assure that program staff are following program policy and procedure.
- Delegate and assign program tasks to staff.
- Assure staff members are aware of changes in policy, procedure, training schedules, and all other information that is provided to site directors from the YMCA.
6. Foster and maintain a positive working relationship with school personnel including school administration, classroom teachers, custodians, secretary etc.
7. Upkeep equipment and keep track of program supply needs, help replenish or replace materials as necessary.
8. Supervise vacation-day programs as assigned.
