The purpose of the team leader position is to ensure the proper distribution and completion of operation and maintenance tasks for assigned facilities. This position is also the liaison between the work team and the operations manager.


  • Lead the field team to accomplish daily operation and maintenance activities for assigned pipeline, compression and measurement facilities to ensure safe, reliable operation compliant with safety and environmental rules and practices and company policies, procedures and standards.
  • Responsible for work assignment and coordination of work plans for the field team and for confirming that assigned work is properly accomplished by team members.
  • Performs as an active/working team member.
  • Ensures the correct skill sets are used to perform the operation and maintenance of assigned facilities.
  • Communicates information, looks for challenges, keeps good records, manages the field team's resources and participates in training and evaluating team members.
  • Supports teamwork, facilitates conflict resolution within the field team, shares authority, assures field team support of Northern Natural Gas policies, procedures and business practices and serves customers.
  • Assures field team manages cost expenditures to meet capital and operation and maintenance budget requirements.
  • Develops project plans, provides direction and coordinates project activities associated with pipeline operations.
  • May be assigned supervisory responsibilities, including employee safety, selection and development of employees, employee counseling and motivation and salary administration.
  • Assists in the administration of the department budget and reporting the work performed within the department.
  • Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.

  • Associate's degree in business or related field or equivalent work experience. (Typically three years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess an associate's degree).
  • Requires a minimum of 3 years experience as a senior operation and maintenance technician.
  • Must have the ability to prioritize, organize and coordinate work activities.
  • Thorough knowledge of pipeline facility operation/maintenance procedures, codes and engineering standards.
  • Basic computer skills, demonstrated leadership, organization, initiative, communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Ability to facilitate resolution of technical and interpersonal issues. Essential to the position is the ability to be a team player, desire to nurture success for the team, have a positive attitude, willingness to get things done and follow through to completion.
