What are the responsibilities and job description for the English Language Instructor position at Northern Nevada Literacy Council?
NNLC is a community-based, non-profit school for adult learners who want to improve their math and reading skills, achieve their high school equivalency (HSE), or improve their English Language skills.
The part-time English Language Instructor teaches English grammar, speaking, listening, reading, and writing to adult learners seeking to improve these skills. This position will also teach a Citizenship program to prepare legal permanent residents for the USCIS interview and exam. This instructor leads a multi-level class with students at varied levels of language proficiency.
Schedule:
- Class Hours: 5 hours/week
- Prep Hours: 2 hours/week
- Meeting Hours: 1 hour/week
- Total Hours: 7-10 hours/week
Responsibilities:
- Teach English language to adult learners at all levels of proficiency while providing instruction on preparing students to sit for the USCIS Naturalization interview and exam.
- Instruct students individually or in groups using creative teaching methods.
- Provide regular and prompt feedback to students and Career Pathways Coordinator regarding students’ academic progress.
- Review instructional content and methods to form recommendations on course revisions and development.
- Responsible for collecting, tracking, and reporting program-related data at the direction of immediate supervisor and management.
- Establish and maintain an organized and supportive classroom environment in which students actively participate and show respect for their instructor and for one another.
- Attend all mandatory meetings and staff development activities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- TEFL or TESOL Certificate.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work in an enthusiastic and encouraging way with individuals of all ages whose first language is not English.
- Ability to interact effectively and professionally with persons from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial, religious, ethnic and professional backgrounds.
- Passion for working with adult learners.
- 2 years teaching experience preferred but will consider new instructors.
