Summary of Functions
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for installing, repairing and maintaining large industrial textile processing equipment, as well as facility maintenance. Tasks include start-up and shut-down procedures, electrical troubleshooting, maintaining and operating high pressure steam boilers under the direct and or indirect supervision of the senior Engineer, welding and cutting, hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical, and other systems. This position reports to the Laundry Director and or senior laundry Engineer.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Ensures compliance with the Kalispel Tribe of Indians- Internal Controls, and Northern Quest Policies and Procedures.
• Insure quality of facility meets or exceeds all set standards.
• Responsible for starting up and shutting down
• Responsible for repairing and maintaining physical structure of establishment.
• Installs, repairs and performs preventative maintenance on industrial processing equipment, water levels, water systems and other equipment and systems.
• Troubleshoots electrical issues.
• Provides emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment.
• Diagnoses problems, replaces or repairs parts, tests and makes adjustments.
• Looks for opportunities to continually improve maintenance processes.
• Works with all plant personnel in a cooperative and professional manner.
• Strictly adheres to all safety rules, policies and procedures required by the Kalispel tribe, law, and what is recognized as common practice in the industry.
• Ensures work is performed safely and efficiently.
• Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing technical publications. Remains current on equipment and repair procedures and best practices.
• Proficient in reading electrical schematics.
• Follows written and verbal instructions and performs other tasks as directed by supervision.
• Complies with all Tribal, Federal, State and local laws.
• Assist in keeping plant as well as equipment clean and dust free.
• Assure roof cleanliness by keeping roof swept and gutters and drains clean.
• Assist in moving linen and materials as needed.
• Clean up construction debris and assist in disposing worn or unusable items.
• Responsible for lifting, storing, and hanging heavy objects and materials around the as well office spaces.
• Change ironer guide tapes, belts and covers.
• Deliver and pick up parts, equipment and supplies from storage and vendors.
• Move furniture, equipment and supplies.
• Responds to daily maintenance requests in a timely fashion to minimize equipment downtime.
• Move office furniture and equipment as requested.
• Provides emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment.
• Remove ice and snow.
• Maintain housekeeping equipment including vacuums, sweepers, extractors, buffers, etc. by replacement of parts, electrical cords, brushes, belts, wheels, and other components.
• Troubleshoot and repair HVAC systems.
• Assist run conduit; install electrical boxes and circuit breakers.
• Install new plumbing and repair existing.
• Landscaping repairs and new installation.
• Automatic lawn sprinkler repairs and installation.
• Concrete cutting and drilling.
• Operation and maintenance of heavy equipment, forklifts, back hoe, & bob cats.
• Welding and fabrication of parts and materials.
• Sheet metal work.
• Ability to follow all department and industry safety standards.
• Change electric motors, belts, and gear heads.
• Responsible for maintaining a good attendance record.
• May be required to be a panelist for the Internal Review Hearings.

Education
• High school graduate or equivalency preferred.
Experience
• Minimum of two years maintenance engineering experience with specific knowledge of machinery, electricity, electronics, plumbing, hydraulics, pneumatics, welder and boiler applications.
• 5 year experience preferred.
• Apprenticeship experience preferred.
• High pressure boilers experience is a plus.
Skills
• Proficient in the proper use of power and hand tools.
• Strong electrical troubleshooting ability of 3 phase 230 and 480 volt systems.
• PLC trouble shooting and/or programming experience.
• Experience in carpentry, boiler repair, welding, and general facility repairs.
• Good verbal and written communication skills in English, ability to comprehend and follow direction, perform basic math, good time management.
• Must be a team player with enthusiasm, initiative, and pride in work well done; self-starter dedicated to continual quality improvement
• Must be computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft programs and other computer software (Maintenance PM System and DDC systems.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with public department heads, associates and the public
• Skill in identifying and resolving problems under pressure conditions.
Other Requirements
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Tribal Work Permit.
• Washington or Idaho State Driver’s License (Must be in possession while operating a Tribal Vehicle).
• Certification is required to operate a forklift.
• Hepatitis A & B vaccination required.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Available and willing to work nights, weekends and holidays as required.
