RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Operates support equipment and systems as specified in operations manuals, procedure manuals, and as directed.
• Uses Meditech HIS/RIS, Philips PACS and tele-radiology networking proficiently – as trained.
• Produces CDs/DVDs; replenishes dry laser film; cleans CR cassettes as directed; cleans assigned areas. Produces film duplicates as directed via digitizer/network & dry laser film printer.
• Assists Imaging Technologists in delivering oral radiopaque contrast media, and procedural preps – per physician orders. Secures and stocks supplies for area(s) as directed.
• Practices aseptic and isolation techniques to prevent cross-contamination.
• Deals with patients in a courteous and timely manner and provides a friendly reception. Receives and transmits telephone and verbal messages / reports. Wears a lab coat, as appropriate, while on-duty.
• Willingly rotates within the section by shift and assignment as required or directed.
• Performs clerical duties and transports patients as directed to maintain adequate patient flow as deemed appropriate by the Director of Imaging Services or his designee.
• Demonstrates the appropriate skills, based on the level of training, to support delivery of radiological care for the patient based on the age of the patients. Utilizes excellent customer service skills.
• Schedules patients for Imaging procedures as required. Performs patient registration.
• Assists the Technologists in transferring patients on/off tables; moving and transporting patients.
• Will start and maintain to administer CPR life support measures in an emergency situation(s) until relieved by either a Technologist, Nurse, or Physician.
• Performs other job related functions as directed and/or delegated by the Director of Imaging Services, Lead Technologists/Coordinators, Radiologists, Medical Staff.
• Will participate in Performance Improvement activities as required/directed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to read, write and speak English clearly and fluently.
• Types 30 correct words per minute, or keyboarding equivalence.
• ARRT registry eligible Technologist, senior student, or graduate ; or LPN Nurse in the state of North Carolina. ? Current CPR (BCLS) certification or obtained within 3 months of hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Associate degree in a medically relevant field.
• Medical terminology, and/or CNA course.
• Computer experience with Windows 2000 and beyond.

NATURE OF WORK:

Assisting certified / registered Imaging Technologists in a technical and patient care support role to facilitate delivery of radiological services to routine and acute trauma patients. Will NOT directly use ionizing radiation emitting devices in restricted areas of The Imaging Center (Radiology Department), Surgical Suites, Recovery Area(s), or at patient bedside, but will assist the Technologists with all other operational support. Exposure to blood and other body emesis-born pathogens. Produces CDs/DVDs; prints films; creates film copies via film digitizer device. Proficient use of PACS and tele-radiology networking. Primary patient contact is adult in nature with less than 10% being pediatric. Assesses patient imaging needs for sequencing, equipment selection and settings, and scheduling. Performs at a level requiring moderate direct supervision. Will work days, nights, weekends, and holidays as scheduled by shift and assignment to ensure the Radiology Department or assigned area is adequately staffed and supported. Provides reception, scheduling, and registration desk coverage and function to extent necessary. Assumes responsibility for other job-related functions as directed by the Director of Imaging Services and/or Lead Technologists or Coordinators. Screens patients to obtain various pertinent information related to the ordered medical imaging procedure(s)/scan(s) including safety screens.

Essentially supports all in-direct radiological patient care functions enabling the Imaging Technologists to be more efficient and most productive in providing attention and delivery of direct radiological care to as broad a base of patients per Technologist as possible. Performs related clerical duties. Performs patient transport as needed to facilitate patient flow. Delivers instructions and/or patient preparations as trained / instructed by the Technologists.
