Northern Star (Pogo) LLC has a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Senior Resource Geologist at our world-class Pogo operation in Alaska on a rotational camp schedule.

What's the role?
In this fast paced and diverse role, you will report to the Geology Superintendent and you will be responsible for the implementation and execution of geological tasks for the underground mine.
Duties include:
- Assist the Senior Resource Geologist in mentoring and supporting the team of Project Resource Geologists to ensure timely delivery of robust Grade Control and Development models.
- Active involvement in the development of geological understanding and competence in geostatistical techniques of the resource team members.
- Management and delivery of Grade Control schedule to ensure alignment with operational requirements. This includes liaising with Production and Mine Planning Engineers to monitor production priorities, as well as Production and Drilling geologists to ensure drilling and mapping is undertaken in order to allow timely delivery of estimations to meet operational and Northern Star corporate reserve deadlines.
- Deliver Grade Control and Resource models with full documentation when required following site procedure and industry best practices.
- Assist in the ongoing development of geological models and understanding at the mine, local and regional scale, and ensure the geological understanding is integrated into the models and communicated effectively to stakeholders.
- Ensure Grade Control and Development models are reconciled back to Resource model estimates, with variance explained and knowledge fed back for continuous improvement of both estimates.
- Improve and standardise estimation systems and processes to facilitate best practice and delivery of robust resource estimations.
- Review the EOM mining and mill reconciliations and the impacts of the result on the resource estimate, with the intention to find effective solutions if reconciliation is consistently under or overperforming.
- Assist where required in the accurate and timely completion and review of Resource models, data tables and reports to be submitted for the annual/bi-annual resource and reserve statements.
- Review project areas to identify resource extension opportunities and additional resources.
- Undertake project work and tasks as assigned by the Resource Superintendent.
- Monitor and review QAQC of all geological data, processes and reports.
- Monitor the management, quality and performance of assay laboratories used by site.
- Improvement of workflows and standardise key processes where appropriate.
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and statutory requirements in order to minimize Northern Star's risk exposure and liabilities.
What are we looking for?
You'll be a highly technical individual who will display behaviour consistent to our Northern Star Values of Safety, Teamwork, Accountability, Respect and Results, looking to work with the business for the long term and be an integral part in its future growth and development.
The specifics:
- Minimum of 10 years underground geology experience in the mining industry, with at least 5 years' experience in resource modelling
- High level of competency in the use of modelling, geostatistics and estimation software
- Experienced in the use of Geological Software including Vulcan, Leapfrog Datamine & Acquire.
- Proven ability to develop a culture of high performance and behaviours that are consistent with agreed values
- Strong report writing skills required
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work unsupervised and display good problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Geology degree from a recognised tertiary institution
- Must have good comprehension of safe operating procedures, safety rules, policies, emergency procedures, and MSHA requirements.
- Must pass a post offer physical and drug test, as well as a background check.
The Details:
This position is site based and the successful candidate will work a roster of 15 days on, 13 days off. Extreme conditions, including but not limited to extreme and changing weather conditions, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light
Employees are required to stay on site at the company provided camp during the work rotation. Camp facilities provide dining service, games room, exercise & weight room, sauna, and accommodation rooms. Dormitory rooms have a land line phone, great Wi-Fi & cable TV. Cell service is available through Wi-Fi. The Company provides a bus service to and from Fairbanks, Delta Junction and Tok, Alaska
