Northern State University’s Department of English, Communication, and Global Languages is accepting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of English position to begin August 2025.
Qualifications Candidates must possess a PhD in English or closely related field (ABDs with a definite completion date prior to August 2025 will be considered) and have a commitment to undergraduate education. We are seeking candidates with a strong background in professional writing, especially writing for digital media and / or generative AI, to teach first- and second-year composition, contemporary rhetoric, and professional writing.
Responsibilities : The applicant will be expected to teach Composition I and II, Contemporary Rhetoric, Media Writing and Media Editing, and Professional Writing. Other expectations include serving as advisor to the university’s student-run news publication The Exponent, maintaining an active research and scholarly agenda, mentoring undergraduate students in research and career readiness, maintaining a strong campus presence, engaging in cross-disciplinary academic collaborations, and supporting student recruitment and retention efforts, and performing other duties as assigned such as teaching a First-Year Seminar to incoming freshman.
