Job Description:
The Director of Faculty Professional Development reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Chief Academic Officer and plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing college-wide strategies for faculty professional development, aligned with the College's strategic initiatives. This role involves overseeing and coordinating key events such as the spring faculty convening, the WONDER conference, and the new full time faculty orientation program. Additionally, the Director may take on additional responsibilities as new college-wide initiatives or projects emerge. This position requires work to be done in person and on site.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design and facilitate faculty development programs to support faculty success in teaching and learning, scholarship and creative activities, and faculty productivity.
- Provide outreach to all campus faculty about opportunities and support available.
- Provide clear and organized communication about faculty development opportunities through newsletters, website, meetings, etc.
- Engage with campus leaders in strategic planning for academic improvement and student success.
- Provide a continuous professional development model for faculty as learners.
- Develop a program for mentoring and supporting new faculty.
Employees must reside in Virginia, Maryland, or the District of Columbia.
- Exceptional writing and presentation skills.
- Strong organizational capabilities
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of contemporary theories and best practices in college teaching.
- Knowledge of the challenges and dynamics of teaching within a large, diverse, multi-campus community college, including various delivery modes (synchronous and asynchronous).
- Knowledge of inclusive pedagogies,
- Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty members.
- Proficiency in supervising or working with diverse staff.
- Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
- Experience in faculty development or a related role.
- Experience in budget development and monitoring.
- Doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution.
- A minimum of three years of full-time faculty teaching experience at institution(s) of higher education.
- Proficiency in assisting faculty with the utilization of academic technology.
