What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lab Manager (AUT/DSL/WEL) position at Northern VA Community College?
The Lab Manager will maintain automotive diesel and welding equipment in good working condition by following suggested manufacturer’s maintenance guidelines and making repairs when necessary.
The Lab Manager will schedule repairs of equipment if it is outside of the criteria of internal maintenance. The lab manager will maintain all documentation and schedule equipment recertification cycles as needed. The lab manager will also collaborate with facilities management to coordinate and schedule all automotive and diesel surplus protocols.
The Lab Manager will assist the diesel liaison with recruiting events on and off campus as needed and travel with the liaison to training events. The lab manager will assist in assessing equipment and laboratory locations for current and prospective facilities.
Duties and Tasks:
- Maintain the shop to NATEF certification standards, including tools and equipment.
- Process orders for shop supplies and new equipment to replace outdated equipment.
- Assists students and faculty with laboratory activities.
- Oversees supply and inventory functions.
- Assist with career counseling and academic advising.
- Recruitment of students.
***Applicants must reside in Virginia, Maryland or District of Columbia.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Knowledge of equipment endemic to automotive diesel and welding labs.
- Knowledge of automotive repair practices in all mechanical areas.
- Excellent people skills.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Current ASE certification.
- Experience with automotive & shop equipment.
- Experience with inventory management.
- Experience with student recruitment.
- Experience as an automotive technician.
- Experience working in higher education or college environment.
