What are the responsibilities and job description for the Web Services Manager position at Northern VA Community College?
This is a full-time position working standard business hours but may require working hours outside of business schedule for special projects.
Eligible for one day telework following successful completion of probationary period and approval of supervisor.
This position will manage the official college marketing website and content management system (CMS). This position’s responsibilities will be approximately 60% managerial and 40% hands on development work.
Duties and tasks:
- Performs website administration, design, coding, and development of the official college marketing website and content management system (CMS).
- Supervises web designers/developers either internal or contractors.
- Plans and supervises the management and completion of website tickets and projects.
- Works closely with the Enrollment Marketing team to ensure the website meets college marketing objectives, and to create compelling, efficient, and accessible web pages for prospective and current students.
- Coordinates with stakeholders to ensure that the site provides content and functionality that meet the strategic priorities of the organization.
- Works with outside vendors to determine ongoing technology needs.
- Make regular requests from employees for updates and input on college decisions and share feedback with supervisors for inclusion in the NOVA Brief.
Special Assignments:

- Knowledge of CMS, HTML, CSS, and graphic file formats.
- Knowledge of Google Web Analytics and responsive front-end development for desktop and mobile devices.
- Knowledge of XML, JavaScript, jQuery, SASS CSS, GIT, and Visual Studio Code
- Well-versed in website usability and best practices, including Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
- Strong analytical skills and commitment to quality.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative work ethic. Basic knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and XD.
- Experience in marketing website management.
- Experience in web applications development.
- Experience managing a team.
- Project management experience with planning and executing projects for web services
- Experience with TeamDynamix, SiteImprove, Qualtrics, and/or Cascade CMS.
- Experience working in a higher education environment.
Employees must reside in Virginia, Maryland or District of Columbia.
