What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Professor, Restorative Justice position at Northern Vermont University?
Teaching responsibilities include four undergraduate courses per semester in core courses that serve primarily the Restorative Justice degree and supplement the Criminal Justice degree. These courses will include: Principles of Restorative Justice, Circle Processes, Families and Restorative Justice, Restorative Justice and Schools, and other upper level RSJ courses. Additional courses include: Victimology, Race, Class, Gender, and Crime, Research Methods, as well as oversee internships and senior thesis projects within both RSJ/CRJ degree programs.
Preferred candidates will:
- Hold a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, or a related social science. A Masters degree with relevant experience will also be considered, with the expectation that a Ph.D. or Ed.D. will be earned before tenure review.
- Teaching experience at the university level; have experience with participatory, engaged pedagogical practices
- Bring experience in restorative justice practices, which may include but is not limited to work in schools, communities, or the criminal legal system.
The applicant should have familiarity with a wide range of restorative justice applications.
- Demonstrate the ability to teach restorative justice theory and practices at the relational, institutional, systemic and structural levels.
- Demonstrate the ability to develop significant restorative justice-specific curricular materials
- Engage students in research and experiential learning opportunities.
