JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Nursing is a member of the management and nursing team. Participates in planning, communicating, and supervising patient care and clinical staff, materials coordinator, and environmental services personnel. Provides optimal nursing care to the surgical patient in all areas and in accordance with established policies and procedures of the surgery center. Ensures policies are consistent with the overall philosophy and objectives of the surgery center and in compliance with federal and state standards and guidelines. Assumes responsibility for personal growth and development.

Reports To: Administrator

Supervises: Nursing and ancillary clinical staff, environmental services technician, and materials management coordinator.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (General requirements listed are not an exhaustive statement of duties, responsibilities, or requirements):
1. Works closely with the Administrator to establish, review and revise policies and procedures with the approval of the Continuous Quality Improvement Committee (CQI Committee) while assuring compliance with federal and state requirements and regulations (i.e., OSHA, CLIA, etc.).

2. Consults with Surgical Center Medical Director regarding quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) measures, including complications, complaints, or deviations from standard of care.

3. Assumes direct and indirect patient care.

4. Checks operating schedules in advance regarding approved procedures and makes necessary adjustments in collaboration with nursing, schedule/receptionist and provider office managers and schedulers.

5. Recruits and interviews candidates in conjunction with Administrator and relevant clinical department personnel. Make recommendations to the Administrator regarding employee hiring or termination.

6. Collaborate with Administration, Business Manager, and nursing for new employee orientation.

7. Arranges in-service programs and schedules educational staff meetings/huddles.

8. Collaborate with nursing in monitoring, assigning, and/or providing relief coverage according to needs of the clinical areas. Manages and monitors overtime hours and communicates with the Administrator.

9. Coordinates vacation and time off schedules with nursing, Administrator and Business Office Manager.

10. Ensures required licenses (i.e., RN, LPN, CNA) and certifications (i.e., ACLS/PALS/BLS) are current.

11. Develops and coordinates performance of annual evaluations and monitoring job performance of clinical staff, in conjunction with nursing leaders, to confirm compliance with policies and job expectations.

12. Develops, maintains, and ensures proper lines of communication with physicians, ancillary staff, and other health care agencies. Monitors physician availability and communicates with physician office managers regarding schedule availability.

13. Oversees sterilization procedures for instruments, supplies, and storage of same in conjunction with OR Charge Nurse.

14. Manages and monitorsmaintenance and repair of medical equipment.

15. Works closely with the Administrator to ensure that fire drills for employees are scheduled; ensures pertinent inspections are up to date.

16. Collaborate with Materials Management Coordinator regarding updates on equipment and new products.

17. Implements QAPI activities by reviewing trends, patterns and concerns in the quality and appropriateness of patient care. Serves as a member of the CQI Committee. Compiles and reports quality and risk management summaries to the committee and prepares data and minutes.

18. Coordinates and oversees employee injury/illness program.

19. Reviews Incident/Occurrence Reports, completes investigative documentation as appropriate and forwards to Administrator and Medical Director for review.

20. It is frequently necessary to perform duties beyond regular work hours. Additionally, it may be necessary to respond to calls after hours for directions/guidance. Due to the nature of the Director of Nursing responsibilities, this position is challenging and time-consuming.

21. Informs Administrator and/or Management team of activities, plans, and problems of assigned areas.

22. Collaborate with the Administrator and/or Management team on special projects and assignments.

23. Performs other responsibilities as needed and requested by the Administrator and/or Board of Managers.

10. Assists in any area of the center and/or flexes work hours to meet the needs of the Center.

11. Encourage and motivate staff by creating a supportive environment in which all departments run smoothly.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
1. Bachelor’s degree in nursing required, master’s preferred.

2. Current Wyoming (or any state) RN licensure, active and good standing.

3. Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in ambulatory surgical services preferred and/or previous experience in hospital surgical services.

4. Two (2) years of clinical management/leadership experience required.

5. The successful candidate must have the ability to work independently as well as function within a team; analyze reports, determine priorities, and plan strategies.

6. Current BLS/ACLS/PALS or obtain certification

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds. Moving, lifting, or transferring of patients may involve lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds, as well as assist with weights of more than one hundred (100) pounds.

2. Ability to stand for extended periods

3. Visual and auditory acuity adequate for frequent use of computers, telephone, and use of other office and/or medical equipment.

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE:
1. Category III exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may encounter chemical hazards

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $48.00 - $50.00 per hour
