What are the responsibilities and job description for the American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter position at Northfield Hospital & Clinics?
Position Summary
The ASL Interpreter will provide American Sign Language interpreting services for all settings of the organization, bridging communication between healthcare staff and the deaf community. This position is a casual position with varied hours each week, as interpreting needs arise. This position will serve as an Independent Contractor with Northfield Hospital Clinics.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as an interpreter between Northfield Hospital Clinics personnel and deaf or hard-of-hearing patients and families to facilitate access to care.
- Interpreting may be needed at any of our clinics in Northfield, Farmington, Lakeville, Kenyon as well as at the Hospital in Northfield.
Qualifications:
- College degree or college level Interpreter Training Program
- Fluency in English and American Sign Language
- Two years of work experience as an ASL interpreter; healthcare interpreting experience preferred
- Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification or Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI) certification
Schedule:
- Will be contacted per patient need. Typically, with at least 1 day's notice.
- Hours will vary each week
- Additional hours on weekends and evenings, on short notice, may be available
