Job Summary
The HIM Manager is Responsible for managing the daily operations of the Health Information Management Department including HIM Analysts, Coders and Clinical Documentation Improvement specialists. This position will organize, oversee and protect patient health information data making sure that medical data maintains its quality, accuracy, accessibility and security. Serves as an essential link between physicians, patients, staff and third-party payers.
Job Relationships
Key Accountabilities
- Supervises and provides leadership for staff including performance reviews, hiring candidates, and ensuring accuracy and productivity measures are met.
- Audits documentation and is the liaison that provides feedback and education to providers and staff to ensure proper documentation is obtained in order to code to optimal and legitimate specificity for ICD-10.
- Abstracts in detail and completed case abstract from the patient’s medical record.
- Codes ICD-10 and CPT-4 each patient record for operations and diagnosis for both the hospital and physician.
- Monitors and manages the unbilled lists and implements next steps to ensure the department falls within standards and goals.
- Provides/reviews pertinent data reports and effectively communicates findings to staff and others.
- Responsible for creating and maintaining pertinent policies for the HIM department.
- Ability to communicate effectively and positively with staff and all other departments ensuring that resolution to problems are identified and corrected.
- Monitors and manages coding worklists, such as claims, denials, account checks, and tasks to ensure timely completion.
Required Qualifications
- RHIA or RHIT coding credential or completion of Certified Coding Program
- Bachelor’s degree in health information management
- Previous healthcare experience
