ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Leadership:

  • Maintain a neat, well-groomed personal appearance at all times and observe company dress regulations; enforce grooming standards throughout the department; must wear an approved hat or hair net and clean uniform while in the department and make sure all personnel in the bakery department does the same.
  • Responsible for the overall performance of the bakery department.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all department personnel are trained in the store's method of performing department activities and functions.
  • Maintain good communications in the store and throughout the organization.
  • Greet all customers and provide them with prompt and courteous service or assistance.
  • Observe local conditions and competitive activity pertaining to the Bakery Department and keep others informed.

  • Take action to control shrinkage and pilferage losses; observe security standards by staying alert and aware of customer actions and behavior; report to store manager or security any abnormal behavior.
  • Effectively supervise other bakery department personnel and train all new employees.
  • Must assure that company values are practiced and taught.
  • Must demonstrate managerial courage.
  • Be able to hear, speak and understand the spoken word in order to respond promptly to pages for assistance, to accommodate verbal requests from customers for information or assistance, to answer telephones, and to be able to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers and customers.

Operational:

  • Ensure that all subordinate department personnel observe their respective schedules.
  • Follow approved procedures for receiving product, price marking and restocking to ensure quality protection, accuracy and product rotation.
  • Adhere to all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations; ensure compliance with all state, county and local weights and measures laws and labeling requirements.
  • Check and verify bakery department receiving to ensure that items listed on vendor invoices are all delivered; check product for quality, count or weight, and condition.
  • Follow opening and closing bakery department procedures.
  • Focus on controlling costs, hiring and training new employees, monitoring product quality and consistency, tracking inventory, and managing the bakery’s budget.
  • Ensure all products are in preparation or storage area including refrigerated storage boxes.
  • Control department expenses and utilize energy conservation practices.
  • Order and maintain inventory control to ensure freshness, product quality and turnover to maximize sales to minimize out-of-stocks or overstocks.
  • Handle damaged and spoiled products per company policy and assist in controlling the level of damaged goods.
  • Ensure favorable department image to customers by maintaining a clean and attractive department.
  • Prepare reports (orders, purchases and sales shrink, processing invoices).
  • Manage the daily output and display of bakery products.
  • Report the department’s sales numbers, labor projects and productivity levels to upper management.
  • Coordinate orders with outside vendors.
  • Make schedules properly according to store needs.
  • Be familiar with invoice documents and confirm accuracy of item descriptions, sizes, quantities and pricing during department product deliveries; record invoice documents accurately on the receiving log and place signed invoices in the designated secured area.
  • Ensure that all department personnel accurately record markups and markdowns, in-store use of merchandise, and bad merchandise/spoilage write-offs in accordance with company policies.
  • Work out a department merchandising plan with the store director and establish goals.
  • Follow approved the bakery department plans for effective space management based on product movement, consumer demand and profitability.
  • Maintain general housekeeping as well as a regular sanitation and cleaning program that meets the standards established for the department, including full compliance with all state and local health regulations.
  • Check refrigeration equipment for proper performance at least once per shift.
  • Use and maintain equipment in orderly manner; immediately advise store director of any maintenance or equipment problems.
  • Calculate percentages and ratios when measuring ingredients in dough mixtures and recipes for varying quantities or amounts.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand the English language effectively in order to read and understand:
    • instructions for operating ovens, fryers, fire suppression system and other mechanical and electronic equipment
    • company handbooks, policies and procedures
    • other written job-related documents including safety notices and other postings on company bulletin boards
    • Be thoroughly knowledgeable and familiar with the method and procedures for performing all baking tasks including safety and health considerations.

Safety:

  • Must assure completion of safety observations., and Axonify.
  • Must comply with company compliance initiatives (example: production planning)
  • Must assure that all bakery personnel use safety equipment required (example: PPE)
  • The associate must occasionally exert or lift up to 70 pounds carrying boxes of records and forms and frequently exert or lift moderate amounts of weight.
  • Follow safety rules.

REQUIREMENTS AND CONDITIONS:

Education/Experience

  • High school education or equivalent. Bakery basic knowledge, basic computer skills, word, excel., outlook.
  • Managerial skills.
  • Must have three years in retail sales and management experience.
  • Must be able to be relocated to a store within 20 miles from home depending on the needs of the business.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations

  • Health department training required.

  • Successful performance requires vision abilities that include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The work environment includes occasional exposure to refrigerated frozen food storage areas with temperatures as low as 20 degrees (Fahrenheit) below zero.
  • The work environment includes frequent exposure to heated ovens and high temperatures.
  • Typically, the noise level in the work environment is moderate.
